Best D1S bulb for pre-LCI F30?

I have had my car for a while and the light output of my bulbs is a lot weaker now. I want to replace the low beam bulbs but I am not sure which model to go for. We don't have many options where I live, but the most popular ones seem to be the Osram Nightbreaker & Philips X-treme vision.

Any ideas? And would removing the front wheels make my life a lot easier when replacing the low beam bulbs?

Thanks a lot!

I just did this project. My right bulb went out and I ended up getting Philips Xtreme Vision 2. It is deemed to be the brightest option, but the color temperature is close to neutral (4800k). It doesn't have the blueish tint to it, however, it is whiter than stock halogen (4300k).

After breaking in for around ~100hr, I can confirm it is significantly brighter than OEM. No regrets at all. Mind that before fully broken-in, it will look slightly dimmer and yellower.

Look at reviews from theretrofitsource.com (they have detailed reviews and comparisons on Youtube as well). I ended up purchasing from them.

Regarding installation, I DIY-ed it and did't find any issue installing with the wheels on. You will just get your arm slightly dirty though lol. Make sure to turn the wheel out, to the direction of the side you are working on.

I refer to this video:

Also remember that the clamps that are holding the bulbs open by pressing in and moving to the left. This applies to both sides of the car.

Billfitz Thank you very much!

GreyF30 Thanks a lot for that. I think I have decided on the Osram Cool Blue Intense because I like the whiter color from the videos I've seen. Do you think it'll match the color of the angel eyes of my headlights?

I have CBI bulbs. I can take a vid/pic of it later. They're more white than the Philips bulbs but they will not be exactly the same as angel eyes.

I just replaced mine this past weekend with Philips Extreme Vision Gen 2's (4800K). It's a noticeable improvement. Philips also make a whitevision 5000K bulb. I ordered from Powerbulbs, I would be cautious with Amazon as there are many counterfeits going around.

Installation went well other than struggling to get the clip off, but the video and forums certainly helped.

Edit: Did not remove front wheels, used a jack to help ease of access but removing the tire is not required, just turn the steering wheel all the way when parking.
