Same with blacks- sapphire black is pretty dull in anything less than perfect condition and on a sunny day. Even then it's a boring black compared to something like Carbon black, which is stunning.

I just don't get why BMW stick with Mineral grey and Sapphire black as long as they have.
Colours are definitely subjective. For me mineral grey and sapphire black are two of the best colours in the F30 / F31, they seem to sell quite a few of these and so are popular for a reason and in my opinion will continue to be popular. The problem with half of these individual colours is that they aren’t for everyone, so the initial premium you pay doesn’t always reflect in resale values. I know you don’t buy a car for resale values but it’s always nice to know you could get rid of the car fairly quickly if you ever needed to (especially as a cash buyer or even to settle finance for that matter).

Blacks and greys will always appeal to a majority of people and sell during any iteration of the market even when there are more popular colours out there. In the last decade it’s been whites, and more recently it seems to be different iterations of blue (estoril, San Marino, etc).

It’s the same with wheels really, dark coloured wheels are awful in general in my opinion, but especially so on lighter coloured cars. Just reminds me of chavtastic rides. But again, everything is subjective.

They sell quite a few because they only do about 6 colours! How often have people been on the configurator and can't decide between several colours they love? Seems to be more like choosing the least worst option at times. I know why BMW do it... all comes down to cost of production. Less colours means less costly to produce.

I've had both mineral grey and a sapphire black car so I do know what you mean, and I don't disagree that black and grey colours are popular. However, I do think there are nicer greys out there and nicer blacks, both in the BMW colour ranges, as well as with other manufacturers. It's like they've chosen the least interesting ones possible. But maybe that's also least offensive, and another way of saying what you're saying?

Can someone help?

I've been on the configurator, planning the next car and the M340i Touring is a strong contender... but doesn't seem to be an engine option I can choose? Only seems to go to 330i on both G20/21 at the moment.

Also, another one voting against the black pack. I've just turned 40 and don't want to pitch up to a client meeting like I've just come from Halfords! 😉

I do like that Tanzanite-in-the-flesh picture though.

User error! New configurator not a patch on old one! Thought the first choice was engine and failed to spot the model selection above. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going shopping...

Gotta admit - its growing on me alot. But I don't want the black alloys, but I want the mirror caps and shadowline.

Apart from that, £59k is still alot of money - even if my taste might be different from everyone elses

There are decent wheel options that aren't all black. I like the ones on mine:

They are nice, I think though that with WDLP the configuration limits the combos and as such black alloys come as part of the black pack

Ah right, I see what you mean now having had a play around on the configurator for the M340i. That's annoying. The all black wheels are not what I'd want. Having said that, I bought a set of all black wheels for my winter set!

Ideally I'd want your wheels with the black grill, mirror caps and privacy glass but it's not an option on the M340i.
I guess I might just see if I can get the M340 grille aftermarket for the g21 when I pull the trigger. I'll have a look on the configurator again tomorrow but I couldn't build a G21 M340 last week. Hopefully I can find the right options.

I also think the Cerium grey wheels are hideous. Everything attached to a pack is very frustrating!

I agree, the cerium theme on M Performance cars across the range is a bit cr*p. A real pity. Same problem on the Z4.
From the few examples I've seen in showrooms, I think the M340i wheels work with a sapphire black exterior. The cerium looks a bit insipid against lighter exteriors though.

I quite like the Cerium look, but maybe I need to see it in the metal properly.

I certainly don't think I could order the black pack like I have on the 330e if it only comes with those wheels.

Even within certain colours there are ones much nicer than others. For example I had a Space Grey E90 330d and is probably my favourite colour to date on any of my 3 series, yet Mineral grey was one of the most boring colours ever.

Same with blacks- sapphire black is pretty dull in anything less than perfect condition and on a sunny day. Even then it's a boring black compared to something like Carbon black, which is stunning.

I just don't get why BMW stick with Mineral grey and Sapphire black as long as they have.
Carbon black vs sapphire black is a great example of one stunning colour and one very average one.
What makes a big difference is a good ceramic coating. Brings out the richness and depth of a dark colour, imo, even when the car isn't that clean.
I wish the G21 was available in CB but it isn't, and I'm certainly not going to pay several grand for it. SMB is nice enough imo. It's not a flat, solid black, theres a dark blue fleck in there, which lifts it.
The G20/21 colour choice is very limited, sadly.
