Ha! It works great though. I filled all the holes on my e46, filled the tires up with Helium, and was able to float across a river.
I was thinking of rtv or superglue...for about a second. I got home not having seen the hole thinking I'd plug it and was amazed at what I'd driven on.

Before I bought my own plug kit, my daughter's car had a flat. I put her spare on and brought the flat in to a local shop. They charged me $19. They took the tire off the wheel, plugged it and remounted the tire then balanced the wheel. This was over 2 years ago when she started driving.
Me, I just plug and go nowadays. My last flat was two years ago (on a runflat even) and the plug is still going strong. I'm probably going to get new tires soon. When her tires wear, I'm getting her run flats. |

I'm not aware of any requirement for patch plugs. Back in the days before steel belts we used what we called mushroom plugs like these: https://www.amazon.com/Stop-Go-3075-...01AWHTBA&psc=1
The gun that we used had a barrel about 1/4 inch diameter, which you could insert through bias ply tires, made easier because the plugs were soaked with glue that acted as a lubricant, but when steel belted radials came along you couldn't insert them. Now I use a Dynaplug kit, which has a much smaller diameter for pushing it through steel belts. https://www.amazon.com/Dynaplug-Ultr...a-422860306228 |

That is just viewed as a temporary/emergency repair here in the UK. A patch/plug inserted from the inside, after an inspection of the sidewall condition, is the approved repair.
