If this was the old Dino days, 30K wasn't unreasonable. However, the synthetics in the modern oils make it unreasonable, IMO. Even Mike Miller (BMWCCA Roundel tech writer) thinks that 60K is fine, and 30K is not necessary.

You could probably wait til 40-50k since you are light on your car and its not sweltering hot most of the year up in NY
If they only provide a dipstick it would be a lot easier to determine when it was needed... progress

While you are at it go ahead and do a cooling system fluid change if it has not been done. Lifetime fill just doesn't cut it if you plan to keep the car for 100k+ miles.

fyi.

Because of the design of the cooling system (you can't drain all the coolant). Mike Miller recommends just waiting until the water pump dies.
