Who said anything about the back of an F150? Thought we were talking about towing. I've never tried to tow an appliance, must be some kind of party trick. All kidding aside, the only point I was trying to make is your suburban is better suited for towing not only because it has the power to handle so much weight, but because it's not so much smaller than the camper or boat or refrigerator compared to a small sedan, less drag and less stress on the motor. Again, never said a sedan couldn't or even shouldn't tow. Just pointing out there are other factors to consider. |

We did Euro Delivery on my wife's 335is Coupe in May 2011. We drove in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France, and saw all kinds of vehicles pulling all kinds of trailers including lots of 3 Series and 5 Series. We even saw a 5 Series pulling a two-horse trailer!
When I lived in Michigan I used to tow my 16' Hobie Cat on a steel trailer with 8" wheels with my '84 Prelude, 110 HP, no problem. The weight of a 16' Hobie Cat is less than 400 pounds and the trailer probably weighs around 300-400 pounds, so maybe 800 pounds total. After I moved to San Diego I bought an 18' Hobie Cat and towed it on an aluminum trailer with 12" wheels with my '88 Prelude, 135 HP, again, no problem.

I was thinking about a simple aluminum fishing boat. Not a deep sea troller. And my mention of appliances, F-150s, etc. was in reference to using a small utility trailer for hauling bulky items. Such as refrigerators. Not particularly heavy, but too large to stuff in your trunk... |
