Intercooler Upgrade

After remap i am thinking to upgrade intercooler on 320D, so far i learned there are two options:

1. Buy genuine one from MPPK part # 17517600532
2. Buy one of the Wagner stage EVO1 or EVO 2

Can someone explain the price and performances difference?

What kind of labour am i looking for to fit it? Any decent garage will do it and charge for an hour?

The MPPK one for 320d is the standard one from the 330d iirc, and there should be a fair few of them floating around second hand that have been removed from 330d's that have had MPPK fitted!

MPPK will increase your resale value if you have the entire MPPK installed. It may cost more and have less stated increase in performance but you get the warranty. Also, BMW power figures tend to be understated so actual performance may be better than claimed.

I have the intercooler from my 30D which was replaced with a larger unit when I had the MPPK fitted.

PM me if you're interested.

It won't enhance it at all I'm afraid, mods never do, even if BMW. I know first hand from pxing my mppk 330d.

As for private sale there was a big thread on this and fell 50% the mod actually putting people off as not standard, and 50% those who wouldn't mind it.

For the OP, the 330d IC would be an upgrade sold mine for just 40 quid after the ppk so you could grab a bargain...

Shouldnt you get a new intercooler before a remap?

Generally you just don't need one unless say your on the nuurburing or prolonged periods. It'll keep the same power for longer - consistent power.

I need to do this with ista (someone looking at the laptop) as I don't know if the obd reader I had was accurate but on my mapped 435d the iat temps are pretty much ambient even when opening it up all the way from 2nd gear to 8th!

I'd agree with this. I don't think you'd have heat soak problems with the 320d unless you run high boost for prolonged periods - or plan to track.

Besides to get the full benefit from it you'll need to have your car remapped again.

BMW part # you quote is MPPK intercooler for pre-LCI 20d F3x and same part is std fitment of LCI 20d to 30d.

Wagner EVO 2 is the better of 2 products you list above and Wagner website confirms same fitment across F3x [and F2x] range for petrol and diesel engines. There's a Wagner Comp Evo 2 currently FS on 135/235/140/240 FB page.

I have Wagner Comp evo 2 FMIC on my M135i - keeps IAT's closer to ambient, much faster recovery and also no loss in throttle response despite the volume being 85% larger than stock. Competition FMIC [8.5kg] is more expensive than Performance FMIC 11.5kg]

My take on turbos and intercoolers

It's like sex when you're getting on a bit. Nice to reach a good peak, it shouldn't take long and it usually lasts only a few seconds.....

You are not going to generate a lot of heat in that time, that can't be dissipated quickly. (A few large gasps of breath is usually enough).

Now you are going to sleep, until at least the next set of traffic lights, or maybe you've gone off the boil completely?

So, everything's cooled down again and you are ready for more......

A lot of people like a bit of fun occasionally, but don't go shagging continuously. Do you need a bigger intercooler, for a moments fun?

As long as your injector is big enough to provide the fuel flow and your turbo can match the required air flow for that 'short' period.

Job's done!

So relax, have a cigarette and look forward to the next inter-section

I know I can change to 7600532
495 x 134 x 98 (mm)
