Nice! Post your experience with it once you pick it up

I thought I would give some feedback on the PTP blanket. First and foremost, shoutout to European Auto Source here in Anaheim, CA for the excellent work. They took on the project not knowing what they were getting into, and finished this morning after some trial and error. Unfortunately, I can only offer a secondhand review of how the install went. Shoutout to the friend that made the clip on his install. Shop would’ve struggled even more without it. Clearance is an issue, and the downpipe section had to come off. Access was limited and this was the big issue. At the end of the day however, Steve from EAS doesn’t think a design change would really help (V2), unless there was actually less material to the blanket itself. My understanding was that even accessing bolts for tie downs were limited because of the blanket itself. They anticipate maybe 3-4 hrs in the future. Best solution? Do it when the turbo is off. Save yourself the trouble. That or don’t do it at all lol...
Either way, turbo blanket’s on. Time will tell how it does. Hope this helps someone else who decides to do a hybrid turbo, etc..
I should say this: I’m NOT sure if this clearance issue was a 440 issue vs 340 thing.

Doubt is that different. I will be installing mine this weekend. Lets see how it goes. I'll post my experience and take a couple pictures in the process.

Will you be removing the turbo?

If you have any questions, I’ll do my best to help you. Good luck

I was going to do it today in my parking garage however I decided to do it tomorrow on a lift. Reason for this is just to simplify things if I need to get under the turbo and release the bracket from underneath. Trying to make this as painless as possible

ooph. that's a great question for EAS. in all honesty, i was told specifically the bolts that needed to be accessed to tie things down were being covered by the blanket. this in combination with having little clearance to get a hand in. this is my understanding anyways.

Garage List
Tried to do the install this weekend, didn't happen. on the X3 at least there is NO way to get to that damned lower bracket from the top and from the bottom will require removing the DP. I think I can get it from the side but will have tp pull my passenger wheel and frame mounted heat shield to try and get to it. I'll try again in a couple weeks (working a chunk of OT)

It definitely gives you a better view that’s for sure. If you don’t go under the car you’re basically just feeling around blind, plus if you go under the car, it’ll be a lot easier to use a tool/pry bar to gently push the turbo blanket behind the turbo. That way it’ll give you somewhat of enough clearance/room to reinstall the bracket/bolts

Am I completely satisfied wit the results. YES! Was it worth spending all DAY installing. YES.
Would I wish the install was easier. Obviously.
By the way. They include more than enough wire.
If you have someone who does any sort of engine/diesel/automotive work as a profession. Buy them a beer to help you. You’ll need it.

Once more. I apologize if my experience did not help you. If you have any questions, I’m more than likely to help as best as I can.

If you have the money for a professional shop to install this, do it!!

If you’re on a budget but have the tools to do it. Save money but spend all day, just get ready for another experience of anger, aggravation.

(This was done without removing the turbo/exhaust manifold obviously. Removing those I would imagine, would have caused me more trouble and irritation.
Is it possible to install yourself??? Yes.
Is it worth it?
Yes.
Can anyone do this???
Depends if you have ramps and another pair of hands)

** again. This was my experience. I’m completely happy with the outcome.
After more than enough pulls of breaking traction at 40mph and letting loose/ trying to get the AIT high. They wouldn’t budge.
They were steady at 106, doing plenty of hard pulls and reaching 125mph.
Ambient air temp while I was doing this was at 80 degrees

Again. I drove this thing hard and fast. The logs were perfect. I definitely recommend this mod, can anyone do it. No.
Is it worth the average person to install. No
Have the money to get it installed by a shop? Do it

(I’m running a AP intake which has a lot of heat soak, it might be the placebo effect, but either way, I would completely do this again. IF I HAD THE EXACT SAME HELP/TOOLS
Alpine i need you i hope you're on. Both of the bolts connecting the turbo bracket to the car are missing the only bolt that is there is the single bolt the green circle one in your image. Do you know what size those bolts are so I can get replacement parts?

I need the red circle bolt specs I can't believe they were just missing.

Edit: Used M8 x 1.25

Maaaan that’s nuts, I’ve tried to look online for the schematics/size of the bolts but I can’t find a single thing

Just a PSA for anyone missing those bolts. I used M8 x 1.25 for all three of the bolt holes for the turbo bracket and they were the correct size. The two holes that attach the bracket to the engine block are tapped into the block itself. One of those taps seemed to be messed up so I used thread lock on one of the bolts and now the turbo bracket is attached via a single bolt to the engine block.

Only 20 of them were made for the V2 batch. All of which were sold out. Not many out there.

I understand. Seeing as this forum was one of the main forums that it was advertised on, I just thought more users on this forum got their hands on it

doesn't help that half the people who bought it can't get it installed themselves
