I thought I would give some feedback on the PTP blanket. First and foremost, shoutout to European Auto Source here in Anaheim, CA for the excellent work. They took on the project not knowing what they were getting into, and finished this morning after some trial and error. Unfortunately, I can only offer a secondhand review of how the install went. Shoutout to the friend that made the clip on his install. Shop would’ve struggled even more without it. Clearance is an issue, and the downpipe section had to come off. Access was limited and this was the big issue. At the end of the day however, Steve from EAS doesn’t think a design change would really help (V2), unless there was actually less material to the blanket itself. My understanding was that even accessing bolts for tie downs were limited because of the blanket itself. They anticipate maybe 3-4 hrs in the future. Best solution? Do it when the turbo is off. Save yourself the trouble. That or don’t do it at all lol...
Either way, turbo blanket’s on. Time will tell how it does. Hope this helps someone else who decides to do a hybrid turbo, etc.. I should say this: I’m NOT sure if this clearance issue was a 440 issue vs 340 thing. |

I was going to do it today in my parking garage however I decided to do it tomorrow on a lift. Reason for this is just to simplify things if I need to get under the turbo and release the bracket from underneath. Trying to make this as painless as possible

ooph. that's a great question for EAS. in all honesty, i was told specifically the bolts that needed to be accessed to tie things down were being covered by the blanket. this in combination with having little clearance to get a hand in. this is my understanding anyways.

Tried to do the install this weekend, didn't happen. on the X3 at least there is NO way to get to that damned lower bracket from the top and from the bottom will require removing the DP. I think I can get it from the side but will have tp pull my passenger wheel and frame mounted heat shield to try and get to it. I'll try again in a couple weeks (working a chunk of OT)

It definitely gives you a better view that’s for sure. If you don’t go under the car you’re basically just feeling around blind, plus if you go under the car, it’ll be a lot easier to use a tool/pry bar to gently push the turbo blanket behind the turbo. That way it’ll give you somewhat of enough clearance/room to reinstall the bracket/bolts

Just a PSA for anyone missing those bolts. I used M8 x 1.25 for all three of the bolt holes for the turbo bracket and they were the correct size. The two holes that attach the bracket to the engine block are tapped into the block itself. One of those taps seemed to be messed up so I used thread lock on one of the bolts and now the turbo bracket is attached via a single bolt to the engine block.
