Drop-in Filters

I decided to cancel my AP Intake and stick with the stock airbox. I got an aFe intake scoop and am now looking for a drop-in filter.

I know most people skip K&N because of oiling issues, but what does everyone else recommend.

I am currently looking at

ARMA:

https://www.armaspeed.com/product/ar...nt-air-filter/

Pipercross:

https://x-ph.com/pipercross-performa...9-for-b48-b58/

BMC
https://www.bmcairfilters.com/eng/ca...28-20/1481/art

Any other recommendations?

I did the K&N. You only get oiling issues if you soak the crap out of the element (which is the wrong way to re-oil after cleaning). Yup... I've did that in a past life as well.

stick to a dry filter and clean it with low pressure air reverse flow when dirty

this is what i'd get...

https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...filter-element

and since you're staying with oem intake box, get this for increased flow to the turbo.

Pulled the trigger on this setup since I already have the FTP charge pipe which I haven't installed yet. Kill two birds with one stone. Thanks for the help!

Around 30k miles or sooner if it looks dirty.

I run an afe dry drop in - I have no idea if it helps (probably not) but I feel like it probably gives me 1000 hp

My tuner (Alex at MP) says to just run stock filter and stock box. Alex, despite his tuning results, is uber conservative when it comes to these things and stated to me he doesn't want any unnecessary particulates in the engine

But given the 1000hp I'm seeing with the the afe (and a couple additional m badges - kidding) how can I so no

Conclusion: I like my dry filter but I have no idea if it's helping me - with an MP stage 2 engine and tranny tune combined with e85 I have no clue what my air filter is doing - but I love driving my car

I have a k&n drop in. Works great. I've already cleaned twice with no issues at all. People have the oil problems because the over oil it. If you oil it per the instructions on the recharge kit you'll be good.

The B58 Pipercross filter have had the worst feedback ever, in multiple forums and Facebook groups.

Over-oiled from the factory to kingdom come.
The material has also found to sag after a nominal period of time. Poor quality, workmanship, or both.

Many Australians have experienced the same and have found oil pooling at the bottom of the intake box.

I'm surprised that you recommend it.

We have not had a single negative feedback and their N55 filter is by far our most popular filter

Can you post some links to these forums and facebook groups. I'm not trying to call you out, but I usually get suspicious when a person claims "multiple" or "many" people said this or that. Posting links would be much more helpful.

I've seen multiple examples on the Baby BMW forums and the UK based M140i facebook groups.

Sure. Nugget already provided direct reference to forums.
See below for the U.K. and Australian Facebook groups.

Mike, I have to say I'm a little surprised.
I also don't necessarily believe any vendor that says they've "never had an issue". That's what Tiago of VRSF says, and look where we are with him.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that what you say is true, do you think it might have anything to do with different weather in U.K.?
Or different production batches?
