I'll have a couple of new MPS4S tyres in 255/35/19 size for sale in a few days if anyone is interested. They're coming as part of a deal I've negotiated on a set of 763 wheels, but I won't be using them. They are new, and not been fitted to a rim yet, and I'd be looking to get £260 for them.

I will be looking at replacing my runflats in the near future with non-flats and was specifically looking at the MPS4, however it seems the standard tyre is not available in 18"
225/45R18 Y 91 255/40R18 Y 95 However, I see BlackCircle do an MPS4 XL in these sizes. Has anyone tried these, or are the XL versions not worth considering? Thanks |

i have a few questions related to this thread.
i too am thinking of replacing now rather than later on in the year, due to the michelin £100 offer. With a further coupen code active from f1 autocentres, i can get 4x19" for £421.39. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/235...ign=20-03-2019 however, my questions are 1. - is there anything specific required with fitting new tyres re: the tyre/temperature sensors? or is that all in the wheel hub and theres nothing to worry about? i.e. any average professional at places like f1autocentres can fit the new tyres? 2 - from cheapest in ascending order, not sure if theres any benefit to getting the more expensive ones in the michelin range, - standard MPS4 (£142) - 4S - supersport - BMW approved (£178) my instinct is to just get the £142 standard MPS4...any advantages to the other variants/bmw variant? - Last edited by gippy; 03-20-2019 at 08:05 PM.. |

They're great in the wet and loads of grip, so much more confidence in my car with the TSC off than I did in the RF Potenza's it came with. I do also find if you put the hammer down it slides around in an odd way, it sort of squirms about. However, where they are much better is if you put the power on early out of a corner, they have much more grip and if it does break traction it does it in a more progressive and controllable way than the Potenzas I had on, which were a bit un-nerving, especially in the wet. Had very little wear on mine in 4 months and about 3k miles. |

In terms of price, I opted for the BMW* fitment because my dealership said it would void my warranty not to do so. They're more expensive.
I got them from Blackcircle, they currently have 10% off Mich tyres, with code: MICH10 I paid over £200 for mine, they're currently £196.76 fitted. https://www.blackcircles.com/catalog...?tyre=38179066 |

Getting new tyres today!!
Been waiting for 9 months since purchasing the car to change what i can only assume were the cheapest tyres the previous owner could find in order to P/X the car!! A mix of Excelsior and Roadstone! I was looking to go with Michelin MPS4's however i wanted to try a square set-up instead of 225/255 staggered or 235/265, opted for square at 245 all round with a 40 profile which aren't available so have Continental Sport Contact 6 which get similar reviews to the Michelins Will feedback once I have had them on for a few hundred miles, should be a massive improvement to the current tyres so not necessarily an accurate reflection! |

Hi,
I think what they mean is that the RFT's have a much stiffer sidewall and therefore any non-runflat will be softer and offer more comfort and traction but much like a softer spring a little more bounce, RFT's are too stiff and the tyre can't handle our crappy roads! Think of the Sidewall as a spring and it make sense |

People complaining of the car bouncing due to the inherent spring rates of a tyre...really?! Ha ha, and I thought I'd heard it all. If someone can detect the minor deflections of a tyre sidewall during vertical springing moments, which itself is part of a sprung system, well, they'd better get themselves down to Lotus or a local F1 team to start developing their chassis!

The sidewall is important as it helps with your unsprung weight, everything before the spring is unsprung, apart from whatever suspension the tyre can offer, i can see you drive a Caterham as well, that must handle beautifully, had a go in one at Silverstone once but that was on their drift course and not around the track unfortunately! As for detecting the "minor" differences between RFT and non-RFT, you don't need to be an F1 engineer! Last edited by motoring_101; 03-22-2019 at 03:22 AM.. |
