Anyone had an engine / trans failure on their 328d's? I know the old N47 had timing chain issues, but those seem to have been resolved with the 2012+ model year.
I know the major issues that run $5,000+ seem to be transfer case, EGR, and fuel pump, but haven't heard any engine / trans horror stories. Just curious if anyone has had one fail yet? Rocking 105k now, Hoping I can roll it out to 250k miles... Planning a HPFP around 120k and expecting a transfer case somewhere between 150-200k with a little luck, but hoping that's the limit on major items. Just wondering if the N47 / 8AT will hold strong that long |

Well the ZF 8HP transmission is used on a very wide range of BMWs and they have been very reliable. All I ever came across are some minor reports of solenoids needing replacement.
Engine wise, the latest version N47 like in ours seems to be way more reliable (for major things) than the gas N20 with all its timing chain issues. Just keep on using very high quality oil, and change it 10k miles or slightly earlier. Avoid auto start stop. 88k miles here, no major failures. 1 injector swapped out at 75k. This is a long term keeper for me.

I would think there would be a ZF branded solenoid kit to rebuild the mech unit, but the only online source on the 8HP45 seems to be unbranded solenoids from China... not sure I'd trust that. I'll keep changing the fluid every 60k and hope I never find out lol. |

I have coded mine to be off by default in all modes, including ECOpro, because $20 or less of fuel savings is not worth it when you have to replace a starter or timing chain snaps.

Ah really ? Both mine and my partners cars default back to 'On' once you restart the car.
Maybe a UK thing to fit into some emissions rules.. ? I'm unsure |

Yeah you'd think we'd have the emissions rule but yeah every bmw I've been into it's permanent off until you turn it back on yourself.

Tried this the other day. Mine actually stays off in Eco Pro as well, unless you push the button to turn it on. The air conditioner on the other hand... I'm not sure what causes that to come on, sometimes it's on when the car is started other times it retains it's memory from where it was set previously.

The car is a 14. I think the i-level was from late 2013, I was going to update it but then I got a tune. Can't really update it now without over writing the tune
