Those with VSS Sport or Comfort?

Just curious as to what mode you guys (with Variable Sport Steering) select while driving.

I have it in comfort mode most of the time since it's the default mode and select sport only once I'm on the freeway. When I get into a parking lot, I switch back to comfort. I find it pretty difficult to park in sport mode. It's kind of annoying.

VSS has nothing to do with the driving mode selected.

The steering feels heavier in Sport mode with VSS... Though it's heavier, it is still wayyyy lighter than say a X1 (which I drove as a loaner)... but still wins handsdown, IMHO, the audi servotronic system which is unpredictable when the wheel will "lighten" up...

So you never set the light steering setting? And you park with the stiff mode?

The only way to alter the weight of the steering is via the sports button selection. VSS on the F30 equipped with it (2012) or DHP (2013) only changes the ratio off center. You can absolutely feel it when you turn into a parking space.

You can park in sports mode very easily. You will feel the VSS whether in sports or comfort. It is not variable assist like Audi or the 5 series.

All said, in either mode the steering feel is dissapointing to me. Its not horrible, but I am not a fan of the electric steering vs hydraulic.

Yea, I'm thinking of the variable assist like Audi. It'd be nice if it realized we were driving slowly in a parking lot and lightened up instead of me having to switch back and forth.

I actually prefer comfort mode VSS at low speeds but hate it on the freeway (our freeways are not straight).

You find this car difficult to drive in a parking lot in sports mode? You obviously never parallel parked a car w/o any power steering. That is an adventure.

LoL, yea I grew up with Honda's and power steering. You must admit that it does help when in comfort mode and parking.

I'll try parking more in sports mode and see if I can live with it.

Parking this car helped build shoulder muscles. However, having no power steering and a mid engine chassis configuration gave it the best steering feel of any car I have ever driven. The 4x2 bbl Webers did not hurt the exhuast or intake tone either.

Had a great 24 years with that old Italian.

Aren't the hydraulic steering options kinda disappearing nowadays? I drove a e90 328xi on saturday for like an hour and could not notice any substantial difference in steering when I was going normal speeds, say between 50 km/h and 100 km/h. I did notice it was super heavy when I was in the parking lot but that's about it.
