F36 Steering Wheel Upgrade?
Hi
I pickup an F36 430D as an AUC from a BMW dealer next week, I am based in the UK Its the Luxury model but seems to have the sports seats, pro-nav and MSport adaptive suspension. However the Steering wheel is the non msport one, although it does have the paddles already Is it just a case of buying one from Ebay and swapping over? Anything to be aware of? Ones on ebay dont seem to include the BMW centre bit so need to find out why that is Cheers |

Pretty much a straight swap. Just be sure the new one has the same features as your current, if you want to keep them. Ebay sellers are usually good about mentioning it in the description. Vibration module (for lane departure warning), shift paddles, and wheel heating are the features to keep in mind. For some strange reason, the vibration units are a lot easier to find than those with heat. Finding ones with paddles is easy.
If you search around, you can find a complete wheel, including airbag. Typically Ebay wheels are pulled from totaled cars, after the airbag has deployed, which is why most don't have it. You can source it separately, but they aren't cheap. Some wheels on Ebay lack the audio controls also, and also aren't cheap. As far as the swap, no coding is required as long as the features match. Removing the airbag is a bear. Don't be afraid to haul on it when working it loose.

Thanks for the replies, sounds straight forward enough.
Just watched a Youtube video and looks do-able. Mine is this one, has paddles but assume no Vibration or heating. |

Definitely no vibration, I can spot the little panel where the button for that would be and it isn't there.
If you have heat, this button will be on the left underside of your steering column, below the signal stalk. Which honestly, is about the strangest place I could possibly think to put it. Took me a few days after I bought the car to figure out where the heck it was.
