Goodyear Efficientgrip or Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3?

Hi All,

Need to replace the front tyre on the driver side and would like to stick with runflats. Currently on Falken but would like to get a premium tyre this time.

I've heard good things about Goodyear brand and was browsing for 225/45 R18 Y 91 tyre size and i have found Efficientgrip and Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 but can't make a decision. Can anyone please recommend me which one is better?

Would it be okay if i just change the front tyre of the driver side or is it necessary to change both front tyres?

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - https://www.blackcircles.com/catalog...?tyre=34855098

Goodyear Efficient Grip - https://www.kwik-fit.com/tyres/searc...-grip/t1014421

Thanks.

You should really match tyres on the same axle.

Depends if you want better fuel economy or better grip, I have the Assymetric 3’s and they are great tyres.

I've run Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on several cars in recent years albeit the 2 rather than the 3; always been very pleased with the combination of grip (wet and dry), noise levels and wear rates and you won't go far wrong with AS3's IMO.

I have the efficient grip on mine. They are on 24k and wearing well. I have have had no issues with poor grip wet or dry.

They are a lot quieter and wearing more evenly than the previous Conti sport contact 5's which came fitted as standard. I would have them again.

According to Michelin's own website, GY Asym F1 are the closest competition to MPS4S.

It's a shame Goodyear don't do the AS3 or Efficientgrip non-runflat in the popular BMW size 255/45/18.

Yes they do...... but the 255x45x18 is not a standard bmw size.

Have a look on Oponeo tyres.. size above is £116 each

I thought 255/45/18 was the rear tyre size for standard M Sport wheels? Or is it 245?

255/40/18.... get there eventually. Quite easy to get your width and aspect ratios all muddled up!

My AS2's (conventional tyres as opposed to run-flats) are 255/40/18 on the rear and I'm pretty sure AS3's are also available in that size.

From what I can see AS2's are but AS3's and EfficientGrip's aren't.

AS3's and Efficient Grip are available as 255/40/18 but now you mention it they seem to be run-flat only so perhaps it's only AS2's that are available in that size as a conventional tyre?

You can get AS3's in a conventional tyre which are 255 wide to fit 18" wheels but looks like you need to opt for either a 45 or 35 profile; suspect either would be ok but clearly neither is the size fitted as original equipment on 18" wheels!

And when I have xDrive, rolling circumference is not something I want to be messing around with!

Understood and for that reason I stuck with the standard sizes (albeit conventional AS2's in my case!).

To be fair my ex had AS2's on her A3 and I was very impressed with them, great grip and very slow wear rate so I wouldn't turn my nose up at them.

I might have looked at something different but had AS2's on the front and wanted to keep all four the same. The world has no doubt moved on since they were introduced but they're still a very good tyre IMO!
