For all of those who have had the failed PCV in the valve cover, did anyone try the VaderSolutions PCV delete? From what I understand, the PCV diaphragm/membrane looking thing is what commonly fails. Since the PCV is built into the valve cover, a whole replacement is required. Looks like a $400 permanent solution and NoClutchGarage already has it installed.

BrettKA7, thanks for the details. It's a bit early for valve cover gasket to fail at 52K miles. My 2017 440i GC has 34K; built in July 2016. Need to monitor VCG as the time goes on.
When was your car built? PS. Nice to see a fellow OCer. |

My valve cover failed due to extensive idling during a drive-through Covid vaccination on a hot day. Technically, it failed to poor design… but I don't think it would have failed had I not been idling for nearly 1 hour straight.

My friend who knows about my valve cover / PCV failure sent me a video that I suppose looks like ANOTHER valve cover failure from a random M240i owner. Here are a couple screen grabs.

Just got the mechanical water pump replaced by the dealership couple weeks ago due to leaking. Now another coolant leak shows up. They did a pressure check and found that the oil heat exchanger attached to the oil filter housing is leaking.
I guess we need to add that to our list of coolant leak locations. |

So I have this issue with my transmission (ZF8HP). After about 1-2 seconds after the engine starts it seems like the transmission engages a forward gear for a fraction of a second. I can feel a slight bump/shock forward and also a mechanical sound of something engaging.
It normally only happens at a real cold start, so after leaving the car sitting overnight for at least 8-10 hours. Only once noticed it after work starting the car to go home. It’s a 340i (October 2018 production) with about 27k km’s. Took it to the dealer last week. They were not familiar with the issue and couldn’t find any error codes but did a software update and reset adaptations. Unfortunately the issue is still there... Does anyone know about this issue and a possible solution? My dealer said they will take it up with BMW and report back when they have some news. I will keep you informed.

Does anyone else have a 'supercharger' like whine that increases in pitch with revs, when pushing on a bit after a while? Sounds like its coming from just behind the bulkhead, around the centre.
Is it normal? |

I'd replace both of your rear diff axle gaskets and put in new fluid. My driver side went, then about 5k miles later my passenger side started to leak.

2018 440i 30k~ miles
Mods: e50 tune, catless dp, supra fuel pump, mst intake Car misfires on idle in cylinder 1 and also has very rough idle until that cylinder misfires. Also will misfire during the engine start up. Only codes I get are for cylinder 1 misfiring and then going into limp mode/shutting off injector 1. There's no white smoke or fuel leaking from exhaust or injectors. So far whats been tried: MYSELF: Sparkplugs replaced Coils replaced Injector 1 replaced Compression Test DEALER: Sparkplugs replaced Coils replaced Injector replaced(not warrentied) Compression Test Voltage test on dme - They found a short in the circuit for cylinder 1 reccomened i replace the dme as dealer does not repair dmes. Also not warrentied. Shop with certified bmw techs Checked sparkplugs, injector, coils Visual on cylinder one and compression test replaced old dme with cloned donor dme So far nothing has worked. Third party shop is now wanting to do a engine tear down to see what could possible be wrong. Im completely lost as dme replacement was pretty much the last resort when trying to figure out this issue. Our only guess now is something somewhere has been knocked out of place or scratched or scorn but basically to see such a thing the engine would need to be torn down and inspected. Taking it back to dealer to see what they come up with. If anyone has had a similar misfire issue and compression checks out, while replacing spark coil injector and dme did not fix the issue please let me know. Again the only symptoms are misfire on cylinder one and rough idle. No smoke, no smell, no raw fuel. Im also guessing the e50 fuel played some huge part but i cant figure out myself what the fuel could have messed up. |
