Used BMW car price negotiations

I'm looking to sell and buy an M4 - nice Austin Yellow one tipped up at Halliwell Jones Chester.

It's on for 35k - what do you reckon is a fair offer - I'm thinking 33k, i.e 5% off?

Or go lower and end up at 33k?

Steve.

Anything is worth a shot, but be prepared for the usual spiel about "it's a desirable model so little to no discount" you might be lucky though and they want to do a deal.

I would say a model like that you might be able to push for £1250-1500 off depending on how it is priced in the first place. Maybe push for something that will be of value to you but cost them little(servicing included etc).

They always harp on about how little margin there is in used cars, even though we get raped on nearly every trade in.

Your right about that, I traded my s4 in for my 435d. It’s been transferred to another garage and they’ve put a 4K mark up from my trade price!

find out how long they have had it. I cant remember how long it was but it might be 60 or 90 days they get before they have to pay for it.

They would rather lose money on it than pay for it.. So if you risk it then you can save a lot by waiting to see if it sells.

Given this...

I reckon £33k isnt a bad shout (I actually prefer the SO pain colour, but each to their own

If you must have captain mustard in the drawing room with the candlestick...

7k miles less for £20 more...

Not my first choice of colour but then again I am not buying it.

Try and get the reg and then put it into We Buy Any Car and get the trade price, you can then see the difference between the two and aim to pay in between

I get the impression that AUC pricing is a lot more rigid at the moment.

Depends.

Sytner are absolutely shocking at updating the cars on their site and on BMW - worth calling up and asking the current screen price on anything within a grand as its usually lower.

Stratstone seem to track prices closer - with little movement on the listed price.

I’d go lower to start - with “i’ll Put down a deposit now if you agree” - quickest way to find out.

WBAC for the M4 and my car as comparison - it was a fairly accurate price for mine so I know what they have likely paid for it.....

Let the fun begin! Still the middle of the month so he will play hardball until month end and sales targets
