Someone else agrees..

Mentions it too many times but another review agreeing bmws advertised power on the 340 is a little conservative to say the least...

Cool stuff, he loves it.....but was the 335i really rated at 5.6s 0-60 like he says?

No, I think the 0-62 was 5.2 for the 335i auto so 0-60 must have been 5.1 or less, the 328i was about 5.6

Excellent review. I of course agree with the positive points being a happy owner of one. Whatever the actual power rating is the car will probably take most people by surprise with it's serious pace. Having bought it after only being able to test the 335i against the 335d the 340i feels quicker than both to me.

He wrote "Twin Scrolled Turbo" which is correct isn't it?

A bit cheesy, but I have to agree with most of his points. The new 340i probably produces more power than advertised with BMW being discreet about it.
Also one of my favourite car's features is:
The door tops, for instance, are low enough that you can almost rest your elbow on them with the window glass rolled down. whilst passing slower cars

Owning a 5.6s 330d sDrive I thought that the acceleration was notably more rapid in the 440i I tested.

I have never done a 0-60 run in my life. However, I was presently surprised when overtaking and playing.

A few in the US side of the forum have done this and found around 330HP at the wheels.

Don't you mean at the flywheel?

That must be around 380hp at the flywheel then WOW!! A lot larger than BMW'S figure

Auto Zeitung did a dyno run and came out about 346hp at the crank, so ~20 more than advertised but nothing like as much as the US guys were suggesting.

I fail to believe in 330 at the wheels, which with 18% DT loss implies around 400hp at the flywheel and the acceleration isn't of that level.

It would also be very interesting to know if BMW are naughty and fettle with any of the cars before giving them to reviewers...?

Appreciate it varies from car to car but I always thought 15% was an accepted minimum for power loss between the flywheel and the road wheels and with 20% often being closer to the norm? That being the case 330hp at the road wheels potentially equates to even more than 380hp at the flywheel and quite possibly over 400hp; very impressive if true but to be honest it doesn't sound quite right to me (would BMW really understate the true figure by 20%?!). However, there are lots of rumours about the B58 engine making rather more than its claimed output so it would be really interesting to see the results from any independent tests performed by reputable UK tuners....

ETA: Just spotted Weaver Beaver's comments and the figures he quotes seem more plausible to me!

The guys in the us do seem to get some very big figures from dynos. I think 400 is a ott and I would say about 350 sounds about right.
Would be interesting to see the torque figures though as that I'm sure is more than 332 ft lb.

I reckon you are on the money there, it certainly feels more muscular than the 320 figure BMW quote and I reckon it is probably in the 340 to 350 range.

I certainly dont think it is anywhere near as high as 380.

Seems to me that a Surrey rolling road day is in order for the new wave of x40i that appear to be flooding these shores?
