The image below is taken from the Terms and Conditions of Sale for a UK BMW dealership.

I am not a lawyer but these terms clearly state that the purchaser is liable for any increase in price imposed by BMW. However, they have the right to withdraw and have any deposit refunded if they don't accept this increase.

So, if you ordered a new car today and it entered the UK under WTO after March 29th you can be charged extra to cover duty. Assuming a WTO rate of 10% this would apply to the transfer price between BMW AG and BMW UK not 10% of your purchase price.

Note that these terms date from 2016 and are pre-Brexit so it is very likely that a Brexit-specific clause has been added since then. If you have ordered a new car recently check your contract!

Not Brexit specific in any way as the above points out. As long as they give you the option to back out without penalty if you don't want to accept the changes they can do what they like and always have been able to.

Fed up with BREXIT like most people but when I read today Mrs Merkel's spokesperson says she wants to take this to the very last moment before anything else might be decided I thought whilst I would have been happy to remain I am now thinking why order any German goods until it is sorted if that's her attitude towards the U.K. Might be brinkmanship but the only way to sort this is through discussion. I was just about to place a large order for German made windows but thought no! So now looking for alternatives.

??

If anybody has taken this to the very last moment, it's not Merkel.

I agree.

As I read this thread, it will not be an increase in price.

It would be an additional tax which end user would need to pay.

Same thing happened in USA when 10% “Gas Guzzler” tax went into effect in 1991.
