Looking for brake pad recommendations
Yes, I did search. I was unable to find anything specific on what I am looking for.
Vehicle: 2018 330xi sportline with base brakes Looking for: FRONT brake pads only currently Usage: Daily driver, occasionally driven hard/spirited, no interest, need, desire or $$$ for brake caliper upgrade at this time Desired goal: better grab and overall stopping power Brake dust: not a concern - will keep them clean Noise: don't mind some, but do not want them to be annoying Budget: $40-150 I was looking at BREMBO P06075 semi-metallic pads ($48), but if anyone has any direct experience with pads that are an actual upgrade in bite and overall stopping power over the OEM pads, I'd love to know. Thanks! |

In short - smaller and lighter rotors have less material to remove heat. So more heat gets transferred to the caliper. Then the excessive heat will begin to boil the brake fluid, eventually causing the caliper to flex under stress while no longer providing the rigidity to exert consistent clamping force. In short - pads are a small part of heat dissipation equation. Worth reading: https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/ct...g-system-heat/ |

As heat is concerned cfm56d7b already gave you a detailed explanation. I don't doubt Hawk pads may be even better, but I can't comment on how much better since I don't have personal experience, as they are not available in Europe. Eventually, you have to weigh which factors you believe have the highest priority IOT make your decision and especially if the difference in cost between options reflects the difference in performance. If it was for tracking/racing we would have a different discussion. |

And when I talk of punishment, I do mean it, I'm not talking about a few stabs of the brakes on some interstate slip roads or A road sweeping corners. We're talking roads where with the Impreza I've had the discs glowing at night and utterly melted both DS2500 and DS3000's among others. Obviously that isn't the sort of driving you do in a 2 ton estate, but it's a good indication of the abuse the road can dish out when pushing on. |

Couldn't comment since I have 437M wheels in black version and don't care much about brake dust, so I don't monitor it.

Beware ceramic pads that promote low brake dust. Their performance is no better than average and they don't work when cold (not talking winter/summer here) meaning that they're not up to their operating temperature. So jump in the car after it's been sitting for awhile like before work or after work, and brakes don't work correctly the first time that you try to stop. |

As John says about ceramic pads, my experience of them is that they are junk when cold and while they give off low dust they generally underperform in every other area. Of all the metrics I would score pads against, low dust is about as low on that list as it's possible to get as those which are true low dust are junk and most others are much of a muchness. Sure, some like DS3000's are henious for dust that sticks like glue but most pads are pretty reasonable. |

Can anyone advise what the part numbers are for FERODO's Premier Eco Friction brake pads (front and rear) for a standard 330e M Sport (standard basic brakes not M Performance)

If yours has the 4-pot Brembo 340mm front brakes and single pot 330mm rear, then Ferodo's part numbers are FDB4611 (front) and FDB4687 (rear). That's what I used. Front pads are the same even for the 4-pot 370mm brakes. |
