Looking for brake pad recommendations

Yes, I did search. I was unable to find anything specific on what I am looking for.

Vehicle: 2018 330xi sportline with base brakes
Looking for: FRONT brake pads only currently
Usage: Daily driver, occasionally driven hard/spirited, no interest, need, desire or $$$ for brake caliper upgrade at this time
Desired goal: better grab and overall stopping power
Brake dust: not a concern - will keep them clean
Noise: don't mind some, but do not want them to be annoying
Budget: $40-150

I was looking at BREMBO P06075 semi-metallic pads ($48), but if anyone has any direct experience with pads that are an actual upgrade in bite and overall stopping power over the OEM pads, I'd love to know.

Thanks!

BMW OEM brake pads might still be a viable option. They provide excellent initial bite.

Pretty poor heat capacity though. Might run into some issues depending on HOW spirited OP's spirited driving is...

I'll throw out another recommendation for StopTech Sports

I would also suggest FERODO's Premier Eco Friction. Better initial bite than OEM.

Interesting, these are less than half the price of the StopTech's as well.

Better initial bite, but what about overall stopping power? Heat dissipation?

Heat dissipation as a topic goes beyond just brakes pads because multiple brake components - especially rotors and calipers - participate in the heat dissipation cycle.

In short - smaller and lighter rotors have less material to remove heat. So more heat gets transferred to the caliper. Then the excessive heat will begin to boil the brake fluid, eventually causing the caliper to flex under stress while no longer providing the rigidity to exert consistent clamping force.

In short - pads are a small part of heat dissipation equation.

Get Hawk 5.0 pads. Best street pad there is. Great bite, instant warm up. I put them on all of our cars

My impression is, compared to OEM, the FERODO are overall slightly better both on initial bite and performance. I just suggested them based on your needs, as a very economical option for DD and ocassional spirited driving, with a very good performance/value ratio.
As heat is concerned cfm56d7b already gave you a detailed explanation.

I don't doubt Hawk pads may be even better, but I can't comment on how much better since I don't have personal experience, as they are not available in Europe. Eventually, you have to weigh which factors you believe have the highest priority IOT make your decision and especially if the difference in cost between options reflects the difference in performance. If it was for tracking/racing we would have a different discussion.

Yup, that's what I've got on my 335d estate and I find them to be a really good daily driver pad for a car that also gets driven hard from time to time. Sure, after a lot of hard driving with heavy stops and a full load you can feel them begin to wilt but for a stock road pad they're brilliant. As you mentioned in your later post it would be a different conversation for a track pad where the priorities are different but on my DD, where most of my time is not spent kicking the arse out of it, the OEM spec pads are much safer than a performance pad that needs use to warm up. When it's -8c, you're driving steadily and not using the brakes, and a deer runs out in front of you, you really don't want to be needing to jab the brake pedal first to get the pads warm, you want instant bite AND performance. In that regard, from reasonable speeds the Eco's do brilliantly, and do improve with warmth until they just can't cope with the punishment.

And when I talk of punishment, I do mean it, I'm not talking about a few stabs of the brakes on some interstate slip roads or A road sweeping corners. We're talking roads where with the Impreza I've had the discs glowing at night and utterly melted both DS2500 and DS3000's among others. Obviously that isn't the sort of driving you do in a 2 ton estate, but it's a good indication of the abuse the road can dish out when pushing on.

Wondering if any of these suggestions are lower dust than oem pads.

Couldn't comment since I have 437M wheels in black version and don't care much about brake dust, so I don't monitor it.

The stock BMW pads are average in brake performance and put out a heavy black dust that's very sticky. Hawk 5.0 pads have best bite and instant warm up. Their dust is light in volume and in color, so it's less noticeable. And it's not sticky so it washes right off.

Beware ceramic pads that promote low brake dust. Their performance is no better than average and they don't work when cold (not talking winter/summer here) meaning that they're not up to their operating temperature. So jump in the car after it's been sitting for awhile like before work or after work, and brakes don't work correctly the first time that you try to stop.

The Ferodo Eco's are not heavy dust pads and what dust they do create wipes off easily with just a jet wash and a mild shampoo. They're certainly way better than any performance pads I've had. No idea about the Hawk's John loves, you can't get them in Europe and I can't be bothered importing brake pads when there's no shortage of other great options available on this side of the pond.

As John says about ceramic pads, my experience of them is that they are junk when cold and while they give off low dust they generally underperform in every other area. Of all the metrics I would score pads against, low dust is about as low on that list as it's possible to get as those which are true low dust are junk and most others are much of a muchness. Sure, some like DS3000's are henious for dust that sticks like glue but most pads are pretty reasonable.

Can anyone advise what the part numbers are for FERODO's Premier Eco Friction brake pads (front and rear) for a standard 330e M Sport (standard basic brakes not M Performance)

You need to be more specific because "standard" is not the same across all models/editions. You better check with your VIN at realoem.com and find the exact OEM partnumbers for the pads in order to be sure for the compatibility.

If yours has the 4-pot Brembo 340mm front brakes and single pot 330mm rear, then Ferodo's part numbers are FDB4611 (front) and FDB4687 (rear). That's what I used. Front pads are the same even for the 4-pot 370mm brakes.

Is that car using sliding calipers or the four/two pot setup?
