meatloaf

Sad news today that Mr Loaf has passed away aged 74. Love him or hate him, he was certainly a character, and of you were a certain age you are bound to know every word to the album Bat Out Of Hell, which was in the UK charts for something like 522 weeks in total since its release.....

RIP Meatloaf. The sound of my youth.

Met him in Vegas in 2013. Great character with lots of time for fans.
RIP

Agree. A real shame. Certainly a significant soundtrack to my youth.

I remember seeing him in concert a number of years back, and he was surprisingly energetic for someone his size. I was close enough to stage to see that he did sweat a lot though....

Ancient. Think I was 14 or 15 when I first heard it (brothers album), and from that day on first base to 4th base was the way to describe success or otherwise with the squeeze of the day.

speak for yourself, some of us are single and reliving our youth (although the back seat of the car might be a challenge these days, dont want the seat damaging in any way!)

Genesis? Did they pay you the 30p? Only joking, we all have our likes and dislikes, never really got Genesis although I did quite like Peter Gabriel's solo videos

Heavily subsidised. They would have been 50p

Been playing a lot of his stuff today (as we tend to when someone dies!) and some of his tracks were epic weren't they. Rock and roll musical theatre! Another great character lost.

Great quote I heard today about Bat out of Hell: “a glorious over the top emotional battering ram”

True. I was more of a Genesis, Rush, AC/DC fan in those days, but this was something different and real over the top - perfect for a musical.

I loved AC/DC too, whole lotta Rosie was another less subtle opera!

Genesis at the time of "Selling in England by the Pound" and Foxtrot were very much a vehicle for Gabriel. I can also remember seeing Procol Harum for similar price on election night Feb 1974 with them finally doing a whiter shade of pale as the nth encore and the rushing back to the student hall lounge for a good seat for Election night

Those were some good bands you saw. I was too young at that point, only got into some of those bands with college crowd years later.

Halcyon days indeed. Saw many of the greats of the late 70s & early 80’s live - Genesis, Rush, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Hawkwind, Gillan, Steve Hackett, Camel/Caravan…

Met a few of them backstage as a friends dad was a promoter.

What I love is that my granddaughters love proper rock - great music crosses generations..

Press reports are saying the cause of death Covid linked.

I replayed several of his major tracks this afternoon, a very sad loss so relatively early age these days
