On-Board Computer Info in HUD
Hi,
Just got a 2014 328i F30 and it's terrific! Am a newbie to coding, but as I read through many posts, I've noticed that what I'm driving is, in essence, a computer on wheels Would like to display the info that shows up on the dashboard when you press the end of the turn signal stalk, but have been told that can't be done. Can anyone explain why that is not possible -- am curious?? Thanks |

Well, technically it is possible - if BMW redesign the system to allow it. When people say it's not possible, they mean there is no way for us via coding or any other means to display that information in the HUD. We can only do what BMW allowed us to do, and they didn't allow for this to be possible.
I think also most areas of the HUD are reserved for various functions. |

Coding isn't adding new code (hacking the firmware) top the car, it's simply adjusting control (data) values to enable/disable things already programmed into the firmware.
Unless BMW has programmed this feature into their software and disabled it through a data (coding) value, you are not going to be able to enable this. It's possible that they have programmed this, but without knowing what the control variable is or having a comment that says "this is the disabled BC in HUD feature you are looking for"), your chances of finding this are pretty close to zero. Sorry! |

HUD Info
Thanks to both of you -- I just that I have found the HUD so useful; perhaps, BMW will put this in the HUD someday??

Agreed, but I think they also need to make sure the HUD doesn't get too cluttered and distracting. It's a fine balance between how much information to show and keeping people focused on the road and not the display.
