Came out to find an M4 parked next to me...

Would it be totally lame if I swapped my hood for one with the scoop??

There is an m4 style hood you can buy specifically for the F30 so I imagine there's one for F32

Am I wrong by saying F30 & F32 hoods both fit the same? If not, here's one.

I think any aftermarket hood that is lighter than the OEM one is good. The hump doesn't really do anything for me.

Oh. I didn't read the description. I just made the assumption based on the fact that when I searched for "F32 M4 hood" a few came up with a title of "for F30/F32/F34" etc.

I know the bump is a legacy M car item when it was needed to accommodate the V8 in the previous generation. Is it even needed now (from a functional standpoint)? Or is it merely for legacy cosmetic reasons?

I read it was significantly lighter than the f30 hood.. but I'm unsure about the need for the hump itself

Just curious.... Maybe the intercooler sticks up on the space?

From the F80/F82 Technical training PDF it says "The typical M "power dome" is functional. It provides the space for the indirect charge air cooling for the S55 engine". So I guess it does serve a purpose still

Must be the intercooler. The S55 does have an air to water intercooler that mounts top side of the motor. I do like it's distinguishing bump though.

From what I remember, the F30 hood only weighs about 44 lbs (20.0kg according to real OEM). A carbon fiber hood can't be much lighter than 20 lbs. I believe the M3 uses an aluminum hood which weighs 25.34 lbs (11.5 kg).

So going from a steel F30 hood to an aluminum F80 hood saves you 14.66 lbs. From a statistical standpoint, that is "significant" but not really worth spending all that money on. It's worth it for BMW to do in the factory since they just pay for the aluminum hood and making 10-20 lb changes here and there can really add up. If you did it, you'd have to buy, paint, and mount the hood which would probably cost in the neighborhood of $1500. To save less than 15 lbs.

As long as it has crumple zone / braces then you will be fine driving them on the street. I heard drivers got decapitated by the hood during accident ( frontal crash).
