High Mileage F30 - Problems
Hey Everyone,
Can you guys please post your car's year, model and mileage and list any problems beyond basic service (unless premature) that you've encountered. I'm hoping I can get a better understanding of how reliable the F30 is with age and particular trouble spots to watch out for especially with any high mileage cars. My car: 2012 BMW 320i - 40,000km (approx. 25,000 miles) Issue: Passenger Air Bag Light On Resolution: Defective Seat Mat (Replaced under warranty)

At only 25,000 miles in ±4 years, why are you worried about high mileage?
I have an 11 year old 2006 330i Sport/6MT that's been relatively reliable WAY past warranty. I've had to replace three (or so) ignition coils, replace the AC fan, replace some seals/gaskets, and repair two separate windows that had come loose from the bracket.

51,000+ miles right now. I purchased it via factory order. Just did the spark plugs myself. No real issues. Only issue has been the transmission ATF pan was leaking and was replaced under warranty. Everything else has been solid so far. |

2012 328i with 43,000 miles. No issues, only routine maintenance. That said, my warranty expires in July and next month I'm going to have it thoroughly checked for any faults that can be rectified under warranty. Let's see what we find....

2014 328i at 63k mi all mine and I loved every single miles I put on it. Still going strong. I do walnut shell blasting every 30k miles, it will run very smooth and you can feel it. Change oil every 7k miles. I just had to replace the tires and bushings other than that nothing else.
Now I am planning to do a brake fluid flush and coolant flush. |

2012 335i over 60,000 miles at the time of this post. (99,500 km to be exact).
Replaced the spark plugs myself when i changed the oil and filter for the first time since the warrantee expired. Oil has been leaking recently at the back of the engine so i decided to replace the valve cover gasket. Did it myself a few weeks ago, and guess what? No more leaks once it cured |

Another important reason is I thought it would be very interesting to see how well the F30's are holding up and how many members here have had similar/common problems. It seems from the replies so far that the F30 has been really respectable considering that pmatibag has 63k, DrivenByE30 has 60k, Project Elite has 50k, adhrp 43k, etc... Thank you all that have contributed so far.

There is a pretty extensive thread about reliability although I cannot find it right now. I would say the F30 is the most reliable 3 series since the E46.

2014 328i 6MT with 18,500 miles
~1k miles, CEL - vanos unit replaced ~1.5k miles, defective charcoal filter replaced for causing fueling problems ~10k miles - charcoal filter fix wasn't satisfactory so the fuel tank was replaced Somewhat minor things, but other than that, car's been good!

2013 335i xdrive 6mt I bought in summer 2012, roughly 27kish miles, runs Dinan tune, basically zero issues except one drivetrain malfunction message that popped about 6 months ago, went away upon restart, and check engine light's been on for the last few weeks Car's gonna go to the shop pretty soon to get a checkup plus some upgrades.
I'll be honest with you, in general, I'm not sure how everybody feels but car doesn't feel super well built to me, comparing to some other BMWs i remember, some other germans, i feel like it somehow lacks that super finely put together well engineered ultra solid unbreakable feel; but full disclaimer this might be fully psychological. Certain parts of the dash, the lock on the passenger side door etc rattles a touch under WOT, things like that, i'm not really super confident how this car will be 100k+, but i do mean to keep it for a while so we'll see. |
