Thoughts on this? Another Dinan and MST type of intake? Lid can be installed or removed for personal preference.

Just ordered one + ordered this Agency Power Dry Super-nano filter, https://www.vividracing.com/-p-15267...xoClwEQAvD_BwE, with the same 3.5” flange to fit onto the intake also for my 2017 440i gran coupe

How is your experience with the intake so far & anything to know while installing it since I saw you have it on a 440i gran coupe as well.. thanks my man

Installation process is the same as with any other B58. 2 things I'd like to point out.

1. The clamp holding the intake tube to the turbo inlet can be a pain in the arse to get to. Have a small (very small) flat head handy because working space is minimal.

2. Definitely cover your turbo inlet while working. My 10mm ratchet adapter disconnected from the head and slid down the turbo inlet. I let out the biggest "FU*K!!" the neighborhood ever heard but thank God theres a little lip that stopped it from rolling in all the way and I was able to get it out.

Other than that it's super easy. With the right tools you should be able to do it in 40mins. Good luck and enjoy your new sounds!

Thanks!
& Nice!, Is the heat wrap necessary or is it more for aesthetics? I never heat wrapped anything and was wondering if adding it would actually improve the temperature/performance?

You guys can always run this heat shield. I have one. I'm sure it helps a bit!

Would it benefit alot or barely since the mst/kyrostar intake setup is a closed box already?… & even though the product is for open intake setups would it still fit with a closed box setup?

Just like the MST intake, I'd be concerned with the pipe diameter increase where the MAF sensor is. See here:

It works for the closed intake setup also. I can't tell you if it helps or not, but in my mind adding a extra heat shield should help a bit. I'm running the VR carbon fiber enclosed system and occasionally I take the lid off to play around a bit.

Interesting, can someone with knowledge about this explain if it’s safe performance/reliability wise or is it just a warranty situation?

Like I said, a ~12% error in the main load signal is not ok. From warranty or safety perspective.

That said, I have no idea what the ID of the tube here is. Someone could measure it. I posted the ID of the stock tube in that quote above.

Thanks for the response ! If I installed it and the MAF sensor wasn’t functioning with the same flow as you state it should, would it throw a code saying it isn’t functioning good or let me know it’s running lean ? & sorry for the noob questions, but would it damage anything or just run lean/waste more gas?

I'm NOT saying this intake causes an issue but seeing as you asked the question. Running lean under load/ high boost/ WOT (wide open throttle) can cause detonation and catastrophic engine failure especially to boosted engines. This is why people often install wideband AFR gauges to cars running forced induction so they can monitor it.

I think if anyone ran a before and after data log then they could easily establish if this mod causes bad readings or not but it's not something I've ever read about or experienced (that I'm aware of!) In nearly 25 years of messing with cars. That said, I can see the principle being true. Also, as someone previously stated, our cars will have the safety features built in and should throttle back to protect things unlike older and less sophisticated systems.

Since I brought it up, I did a search and the developer of JB4 said the MAF on BMWs is only used during open loop startup for cold idle, until the O2 sensors reach temperature. The MAF is used upon startup and low load, and shouldn't cause issues under load/boost/WOT.

That said, can one of you who purchased this recently measure the ID of the stock housing near the MAF, and the ID for this one?

SRB440IGC Still happy with this intake?

Also do you have a link where you bought it? All the ones I find on ebay ship from China and are going to take 4-6 weeks.

edit: found this one, but doesn't ship to Canada.

No issues, no CELs. Car runs strong and sounds great. I noticed every once in a while the US sellers will run out of inventory and you'll need to wait for them to "restock". I'm not sure how often they do this. I heard they also sell on AliExpress but I'm not too familiar with their sellers.

SRB440IGC I contacted that seller that ships from Houston, they are in China and won't ship from Houston to Canada. They sent me a link for one shipping from China for $233, but I found another seller with it for $200. Received from China in 4 days.

From your initial pic, it looks like you put the smaller edge trim on the hole for the inlet? The larger trim with the balloon edge should go there to seal the hole. The smaller trim should go on the arc of the wheel well to prevent rubbing, but I found it didn't touch, so I actually put it on the 90 lip that rests on the body, the lip with the hole that gets attached by the airbox ball. I found that lip was rubbing and squeaking.

Question.. does your filter slightly touch the wheel well? I couldn't get the intake pipe positioned in any way where it wasn't touching.

Anyone run this intake and do oil analysis? Curious about how good the filter is at keeping silicon levels within range?

I recently bought/installed a MST intake for my 340i and I am also having the same issue where the filter is slightly touching the wheel well.

Tried for a good hour playing around with the piping but couldn't figure it out.
