First brake service during my ownership
Hey guys,
I am due for a oil change in 2000k, vehicle is also due for front brake pads in 5000k according to the iDrive on my car. My F30 is still under manufacturer warranty and still entitled to the free maintenance. Having said that what does the brake pad service look like? Do they replace the rotors also? Pic attached. Thank you Last edited by tester2011; 08-09-2022 at 11:07 AM.. |

They will have a look at the (front) pads and IF the pads need replacing they'll replace them. While doing that, if they see that the rotors need replacing they'll replacing them also. Consider the warning on your iDrive as a prompt for examination of the pads and not necessarily for replacement.

The CBS indicator for brakes are a bit weird, the mileage countdown is only a estimate that hits a floor, then will stay there till the actual wear sensor on the pad is triggered.

Just got my car back from the dealer. I need new rear pads and brakes. It is down to minimum thickness. They wanted $1360 all in and I declined. I found a indy shop that will do all 4 brakes and pads (Zimmerman) for $1370 all in, with 1 year warranty.
Are Zimmermans any good. Ive been reading mixed reviews. Thanks |

Get Hawk 5.0 pads if you can. They are the best street pads so you will notice a difference. You can't go wrong with plain Zimmerman rotors and new Hawk 5.0 pads. I don't think that you mentioned your year, model and brake calipers (blue or grey). Parts prices vary depending if you have smallest F312/R300 F30 brakes or the largest at F370/R345. A good rule of thumb for brake labor from independent shops is $100-$125 labor per corner to install new rotors and pads (get brake pad sensors too- one front, one rear, about $20 each). That should include a complete brake fluid change, bleeding the brakes using the BMW ISTA system procedure to remove all air. Hope this helps! |

I just paid $460 at my local indie shop for a full Mobil 1 synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and front brake service. The brake service was about $360 of that, and included labor, new rotors, and new front sensor. I provided my own EBC Red pads, which were $160 from Amazon. So the price you've got seems maybe a bit high but still fair, I would say, assuming it's 1370 CAD not USD.

Yes thats in Canadian dollars. My vehicle is a 2018 340i with M Sport Brakes (Blue Calliper). That price was by far the cheapest of all others who were upwards from $1700 + tax. I intend to do all 4 and the price I posted was for all 4. Can anyone from Toronto on this forum recommend me a shop in Scarborough that may offer me a better price? Thanks |

That's just unsane. In 2008 I bought EBC pads + 4 Zimmerman rotors + sensors for $600 CAD. Just bought parts for our Audi (larger rotors), and that was 4 Zimmerman rotors + pads + sensors for $850 CAD delivered.

just a quick skim over the thread and am shocked by the markup some are charging for brake service.
i just did front rotors pads and rear pads and I think in usd I dropped about 450 on Zimmerman rotors plus ate pads. if I did the rear rotors I'd hit about 600 for a full service. diy of course but now that I'd done it once it's about 10 mins a corner including popping the wheel off. 2k cad or 1.5k usd is highway robbery! |

Base brakes and rotors on my f33 was under $300/axle for pads and rotors and about an hour of my time.
Haven’t done M brakes on my F39 yet. Front pads were done free by dealer at 22k miles. |
