Questions about likely VCG leak

So I've had a burning smell for a few weeks and took off the undertray tonight to get a better look after I wiped underneath the valve cover as best as I can and noticed some oil. I saw a very small amount of oil on the exhaust manifold and on a o2 sensor. However I noticed more oil coming down towards the front of the valve cover, with it being most obvious on what I think is the water pump. I think it's pretty clear, but I have seen much about leaking oil in that area, is that a usual thing with a failed VCG? The lost oil is minuscule with only two drops on the undertray at the front where I assume it just doesn't burn off like the back. My oil level is unchanged at max and it's not immediately obvious from the top that I'm leaking oil so I'm almost certain I have caught it very early.

My guess is this is something like a $750 job? I'm thinking I'll do it myself at some point after the holidays since it's far from significant at the moment.

Is your car modded? If you have a good relationship with your SA you may want to just call or bring the car in and see if they will cover it out of good faith, especially since the car is well under the mileage limit for the warranty, and you can make the case that it has been leaking for a while (while warranty was still valid). Again, no guarantee, but worth a shot since its not really a cheap fix.

I flashed it right after warranty ended, think it might take more time and effort for me pestering them to cover some of it than it would for me to just fix it. I think this leak is definitely something that started recently however.

Sounds like the VCG. Mine at 55k miles just started to weep in two spots. It's going to get fixed when I do my plugs, oil change, etc in March.

It was definitely the gasket, not a fun process. About 4.5 hours, would expect the f3x to be easier, that bolt in the back left sucks on the 2 series, the valve cover was surprisingly easy to set in place.

These valvetrains look so clean. Gotta love modern oils. No more of that "Castrol Red"
