F30 320d Pre-LCI (ASIA / INDIA) - Transmission Slipping / Delayed Shifting After FEM Replacement (Error CF2101)

Hi everyone,
I’m facing an intermittent issue with my 2013 F30 320d Pre-LCI and would appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community.

Issue Summary:
• The car feels less responsive when revving. RPM rises but speed doesn’t increase proportionally.

• It takes nearly 20 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, which is unusually slow.

• When I shift to sport mode, the cluster shows the gear is stuck at S4, and sometimes it refuses to shift to S5.

• However, the issue is intermittent — sometimes the car drives normally with smooth gear shifts.

Recent Work Done:

• I had a FEM module replaced recently due to a short circuit issue.

• The mechanic installed a FEM from a newer F30 (possibly LCI model).

New Problems After FEM Replacement:

• LIM switch on the steering wheel is not working.

• Error code CF2101: Message (operation of switch paddles, 0x207) missing, receiver EGS (FA-CAN), transmitter FEM / SZL_LWS / SCR (FA-CAN) — scanned via BimmerLink.

• This suggests there’s missing CAN communication between the FEM, steering wheel switches (SZL), and the transmission module (EGS).

Mechanic’s Input:

• He suspects the issue is related to the torque converter clutch inside the transmission.

• Slipping seems to occur only after the transmission warms up, which may point to internal clutch wear or pressure loss.

Normal Driving:

• In regular driving conditions, the car behaves okay.

• The issue is most noticeable during hard acceleration or when pushing the car.

My Questions:

1. Has anyone experienced a similar issue after FEM replacement, especially when using an LCI FEM in a Pre-LCI car?

2. Could the CF2101 error be causing the EGS to behave unpredictably or limit gear shifts?

3. How can I confirm if the issue is electrical/coding related vs a mechanical torque converter issue?

4. Would VO coding or flashing the correct software fix the communication gap between modules?

Would appreciate any help, advice, or shared experiences!

Thanks in advance.
