Did my NT510 screw up my service indicator?
Bought a Foxwell NT510 Elite during box-week sales. Great unit but it seems something may have gone wrong and I don't know the cause nor if I can fix it or if I need to fix it.
On my car (2016 228, yes I know this is the 3 series forum but we all understand that there are 10 people on the 2ddicts forum and 1000's over here) I got a service indication I was 900km from requiring service. I plug in my NT510 and all of a sudden, the car says I'm 6,000 km from service. How blunderful. I had the car in for oil service at an independent shop 2 days later. I told the guy about the service reset, "yeah, yeah, yeah" head nod, car is done. I drive home. But then I see the service indication says Next Service is at 130,000km. A whopping 30,000km from present mileage. Where's The Fridge! Can that be right? Wondering if the NT510 would cause problems again, I plug it in and no reset of anything. It's fine. No re-screwing of my service indicator. Lovely~ Wondering if the service indicator should show 130,000 km? It does seem to be governed by a formula to remind you to spend money on a regular basis but not too often. It's like it's says "Hey, who drives around in a 4 year old car? Why not get your a$$ back to the dealership and reconsider your foolishness. Your car practically looks like a cardboard box next to the latest models." |

My NT510 has never affected any of my service intervals unless I told it to. The formula used by iDrive for most service intervals is mileage and time based, whichever comes first. The mileage to the next service and time to the next service might not agree. For instance, if the mileage is 10,000 miles and the interval is one year and you drive considerably more or less than 10,000 miles a year the two aren't going to be in sync. My mileage to next oil change seldom goes below 7,000 miles, because I only drive around 4,000 miles a year. Nonetheless a month before the yearly interval is reached it says so on the dash.

Oddly missing from the Foxwell manual, the CBS (Condition-based Service) intervals can be set manually using the NT510. I guess it was a feature later added after the manual was written? |

The manual is sparse. You get a lot more information in the support blog.
