Meant to take care of this but of course other things broke on my f30 plus had to take it in for a recall so I've been riding around in a X3. I still plan to write up a DIY on this.

Reported this issue to my dealer during a visit this weekend, they diagnosed and replaced both front door lock actuators under CPO warranty (no charge, not even deductible). It's a 2013 328i.

Can you provide the p/n from your work order /invoice? My Driver's door does it occasionally, so i mind as well fix it before it totally fails.

That would be great! I have the Bentley's, but a DIY would be a great addition to the process.

Took mine in back in October for the issue, they fixed it and then it happened again once but since then, haven't had it happen again. Cautiously optimistic.
Mine will CPO once the orig. expires so I guess that's good news it's also covered under CPO if it pops up again. |

I've been having this problem. I didn't think anything was wrong until reading this thread. I guess I'm going to take it in to the dealer under CPO to see if they change it out for me. It does get kind of annoying...

Have you at least taken it to the dealership to see what they say? It's such a common issue that they might waive it even though it's out of warranty. Worth a shot...

I mentioned this issue when I recently took my car in for service. The service advisor said it was a common problem and they had a few potential work arounds/fixes. Later I got a call and they said that the CPO warranty didn't cover this problem and it would be $835 to fix! Any suggestions on how to get this covered? The car is only a few months out of factory warranty.

Here's a link to a video that goes over the door panel removal and installation process. Its actually a speaker replacement video but you at least see how to remove the door panel. The lock actuator replacement process is obviously not included but this video is still helpful. Watch the beginning for removal and 15 minute mark for panel re-install.

Me too. Had my passenger side fixed under warranty back in April....now the driver side is acting up and I'm now conveniently out of warranty. Found the OEM part on ebay for $60...going for $170 at dealer.

Its happening to me on my 2014 F30 328i. Also happened on my 2007 E90 and also had to let myself out from the outside. Lock actuator is going bad. If it's under warranty have the dealer fix it. If not, look for an independent UDM mechanic.

anyone have any info about how to deal with this? such as a specific TSB?
My dealer says if you can't reproduce it in front of him, he won't fix it. The actuator on the passenger door is really slow in comparison to the rest and it jams sometimes so the passenger can't get out by pulling the door lock. The service guy was a bit of an ass. He says that if there's no fault code and a slow stuttering lock is normal. I've had my rear passenger door actuator replaced for the same reason in the past but he doesn't want to do it now. |

Took my 2014 F31 Wagon in for this issue .... doors not opening on double pull of the handles. They diagnosed the problem (didn't admit that it was a common F30 family issue) and replaced both front door lock actuators under the new car warranty.
This is a serious safety issue and this should be fixed even it the car is out of warranty. Each Service Manager has "discretionary warranty" money to use in these situations. Press the issue!!!
