Replaced the spark plugs myself when i changed the oil and filter for the first time since the warrantee expired.

Oil has been leaking recently at the back of the engine so i decided to replace the valve cover gasket. Did it myself a few weeks ago, and guess what? No more leaks once it cured
Oil leaks at only 60k seems a little early for me.

I've noticed so far no LCI cars reporting issues. Knock on wood.

I don't have high mileage but I also have ZERO problems
Scanned a magazine I forget which at the bookstore rating all the autos..it is rating the 3series the highest ratings on all categories except electronics..
BMw has come a long way..and considering many bimmers get pushed hard, tracked, and modded I am sure it skews the reliability ratings down a bit.

perhaps I should explain that it's a company lease and I'm not subject to any mileage limit! I actually do more like 35k per year. It's a 90 mile round trip to work. 1 hour each way on nice roads. And some days I go to different offices.
Also I've taken this happy car to various fun destinations like Germany, Scotland, and that sort of racks up the miles as well.

I thought this thread was about the F30, not E-series...

Anyway, AFAIK the design issue that caused the earlier engines to need the walnut blasting has been corrected. Don't know if that's really true, but I don't recall hearing that F30 owners have needed to have their engines walnut blasted.

These are my valves after 80k miles.

Just don't do short trips and do some WOT once in a while.

Yes, titled F30...but all 3s( and 4s) are lumped together anyway and it was a good example of a low mileage 335 that has issues.

2014 335i N55 Log

Two oil leaks repaired under warranty at 36,660 miles. The Oil Filter Housing gasket failed and a Oil Check Valve (aka Hydraulic Valve, aka solinoid) had to be replaced.

My SA said that they replace the filter housing gaskets all the time. That was a common problem on E46s too,but only after around 100k miles. My SA couldn't explain why, but guessed it was due to the higher oil temps in FI BMWs.

I have no idea what the check valve is for. Oil cooler? VANOS? I'm glad that I caught these oil leaks on warranty, but dissapointed that they presented themselves at such low mileage.

Replaced Charge Pipe. Had to stop competing in autocross and limp to Dealer. May be related to increased boost from Dinan Stage 2. However, replaced under warranty by Dealer.

Replaced Water Inlet O-Ring. This is the for the pipe that runs from the water pump to the engine block. It was a "class 1" leak in that there wasn't any visible water, but the surrounding area was green from coolant. Last warranty item; it's all on me now....

Replaced Xenon head light

Replaced upper coolant line (between expansion tank and upper hose connector). This line is only about 1/4" and made of plastic and metal. It cracked where the plastic met the metal. BMW coolant parts usually have the decency to last to at least 60k miles, but this failed at 48k miles. I guess this part was an over achiever. I was able to drive it home by cleaning coolant off the line and then wrapping it up with electrical tape.

My engine compartment has been burning oil recently, so I suspect that I'm about to do a valve cover gasket.

History:

(Under Warranty)
(Replaced by 1st Owner)
-Steering Wheel Replaced: 10,857
-Steering Wheel and Horns Replaced: 15,238
-Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs Replaced: 21,120
-Transmission Replaced: 25,461
(Replaced by Me)
-Oil Leaks: Filter Housing Gasket, Oil Check Valve: 36,660
-Charge Pipe Replaced 37,881
-Water Inlet O-Ring replaced 41,197

(Not under Warranty)
-Xenon Headlight (left) Replaced: 44,690
-Upper Coolant Line Plastic Cracked (thin line between upper hose connector and expansion tank): 47,908
-Valve Cover Gasket: 48,130
-PVC Breather Pipe: 48,130
-Air Box to Turbo Intake Tube: 48,130

2017 340i Xdrive ~ 4,854 Miles

~ Trunk Latch Failure.
~ Power Folding Mirror's would not fold back out with interior button had to manually push them back out.
~ A module failed.
~ Parking Sensors Failure.
~ Sunroof wouldn't come down from vent position.
~ Failed TPMS sensor.

All which were fixed under warranty of course, and along with some other miscellaneous issue's. But other than those issues the car has been fine and I still love it!

I also noticed that im one of the only people who have had these many issues with their 340i. My brother keep's telling me to get rid of it because it's a "Lemon". I mean I do hate the fact that the car has been at the dealer more than I've driven it which is why it only has 4k miles on it. It will be gone soon though so I don't want to go through the whole lemon law process again b/c when we did with my wife's S3 it was the BIGGEST headache!

Interesting so many of you had issues. My car has been relatively issue free, which is even more surprising considering it's FBO and tracked all summer long.

2013 335i 6spd
-Currently at 57k miles

35k- Mass airflow sensor failed
48k- Chargepipe failed

Other than routine maintenance, it hasn't had any other issues.
