B48 330i - Afterthoughts and future recommendation

Hello Guys I would like to use this thread to share general information and mod suggestions for current/ future B48 owners. It seems that the next generation 3-series will use the same B engines so our car has a long journey to enjoy until something really tempting came out (for myself I will droll over a RX-9 with the modern rotary engine).

To introduce myself, I live in Hong Kong and own a 330i M sport. I have been upgrading my car bit-by-bit and so far I really enjoyed my car. I think it has great potential if I keep it long enough and keep up with the modding.

Currently, my car has the following installed:-

For Looks
- OEM plastic rear & front diffuser, side skirt, carbon mirror covers
- Random aftermarket carbon fibre look front grills
- Full M performance trims, including the shift knob, shift knob base, handbreak, arm-rest
- Christmas Tree steering and M pedal shifters
- The new Navi system EVO (installation pending next month)

For performance
- 405M wheels with PSS
- Endless break pads & M performance break disk
- KW v3 coilover set
- 10 &15mm burgertuning spacer
- GruppeM intake
- FTP Chargepipe
- C+ engine oil
- DTE tuning box & pedal box
- FI stainless steel exhaust with 200cel downpipe

I have been tempted to get a EVO-X or STI in the next 1-2 years (preferably modded so to save my time). However, I always turn back and think I should rather save my time and relearning periods and instead keep my car updated for modding and actually push up the full potential and dispose it until it really can't be driven. Especially this 3-series is really practical for family and with my current goal substituting a comparable fun car will be a lot of money and effort. I have a day-to-day beater fiat 500 for pick-ups at work so I should keep this "family sedan" for its practicality. I am also willing to pay a decent price to mod (labour) and regular maintenance.

With the above in mind, I am looking to do the below within 2 years:-

- Racing front seat set, prefer cloth fabric for durability (airbag issue had to be catered for)
- New Turbo and Engine internal upgrades (absolute no news at the moment)
- A set of Rays G25 edge and a 6x4-pots break set up (I am amuse by the fact that Rays rims are not actually that expensive compared to my current one)
- RW carbon exterior swap (front and rear spolier)
- New OEM M-cars GT wing (not sure whether that will fit the F30 truck)
- JB4 if I managed to get my turbo and forged parts
- LSD & Sway Bars
- Intercooler Or meth injection kit (prefer the former)
- Replaceable fenders wide body (not sure these exist for F30)

Does anyone have any good idea where I should look at for obtain those parts?

Here are some pictures of my car…..

I'm surprised you don't have a JB4 installed yet with your FBO 330i.

I'd go JB4, oil coolers, followed by LSD

I haven't got the JB4 is because I want to get it after the hardcore mod installed. I have no intention to turn up turbo boost until I can get my hands on cooling solution and upgrade turbo....

Doing turbo before tune is an unusual order, but so far you did really good work on the car

I do have my safe tune DTE tuning box installed now... I will definitely go for JB4 as tune upgrade once I can allocate a new intercooler and turbo

Yes I am looking into it. At the moment I am rather keen on the newly launched M3 GT wing. I am not keen on the stick on "Baseball cap" style spoiler.

The kind of wing I am looking into it, mainly for looks, short height, moderate width, Ok with non-adjustable (designed for M cars but not sure whether it will fit F30 truck):

Some inspiration for wide body (No drills and privets):

OP car is nice. The wide body kit in the pics is hideous. Those fake vents front/rear stick out like a sore thumb and the cheaply tacked-on look is terrible..........

Quality parts, good taste!

That Fi enxaust may be may favorite I've seen for the F30 -The finish on the tips works so well with your color. Rays G25 would be a great choice for your car, be sure to keep us updated.

O I rather think those examples looks pretty clean and will not compromise the original bodykit..... do you have any suggestions?

Thank you Mike, I am sure JB4 will be needed very soon once I can foresee upcoming turbo, engine and/or intercooler options.

Do you think it is necessary to have a aftermarket boost pipe to ensure safe usage of JB4? At the moment, I cannot find substitution for boost pipe.... apparently the boost pipe now located in the deep end of engine so labour will be expensive unless you do more engine tuning in one go.

Thank you for your kind words. Those videos are taken indoor so it sounds really loud and pops, they covered both open and close valve situation.

I definitely will keep this update. For the rims, I intended to upgrade to K-sport breaks (forged finish 6x4 pots) and G25 edge 20" in one go.

My sway bars set from H&R arrived. Hopefully I can get it installed at the end of this week.

I am surprised that the bars themselves are very reasonably priced, it is the labour cost man....

Just got my sway bars installed today. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to drive my car real quick today at the curves. However, even at normal speed I can feel the turn now has even less body roll (already minimal with my KW V3), also Road feel on the steering had improved.

Maybe it is the road or body condition today (night after dinner drive), I don't feel the turns have been significantly sharper then before... maybe I need to find a curve drive someday when I am free

Hello guys I now came with some update on my future plans. This first year with my car had been going very quickly, I am looking forward to the following:-

1) GT Real spoiler

I have placed an order for the M4 M performance truck spoiler. Crazily priced but I think it is worth it. I suppose those will arrive around end of April to early May. Apparently my garage is really excited about this, as virtually no-one in Hong Kong had ordered the same yet.

2) Advan GT racing 19" wheels + RE71R tyres

I have ordered those quiet a while, I believe those should arrive within these two weeks. I should be able to get them installed end of this week. Tyre size I am leaning towards 225 and 255 combo as I prefer low profile and "thin" looking tyres. I think I will re-tune my coils so accommodate these new rims.

3) Qualife LSD

I had open the dialogue with Bird's this week. They are really into it and helping me out a lot. I suppose I should be able to get one next month.

4) Bigboost Turbo Upgrade (with JB4, POV)
I had asked Julian for subscription. I think that will take some time for development.

Overall, this is looking promising and very excited.

FYI our stock differential are welded, so you will need a new pumpkin from older N20 3er and new final drive to get the LSD done,

because i just came through this 2 days ago, i was planing to do the LSD and CF drive shaft, found out a friend's F10 got welded diff, we were trying to find the way to put the lsd into his F10, thats how we found out our F3X have welded diff

Good luck

Thank you for your kind reminder.

I also know that, so I have ordered the full conversion kit which includes the shell. Seriously BMW LSD are expensive.

Interesting to know that you are thinking to get carbon driveshaft.... slightly unusual.

In fact, my turbo order are in place and they should come in 2 months
