"Warning: Hot Clutch!" 6MT
Hello BMW Experts!
Has anyone had the pleasure of seeing this "Hot Clutch, Pls Cool It" warning? I've gotten it twice now while tooling around in NYC, doing 1st gear stop & start going up a long slope or something. I got the car with ~10k on it; plenty of miles for someone to fry a clutch plate (my sister could do it in half that). Does any M5 clutch pack bolt up to this car? Murf |

M5 and 335i etc DO NOT FIT. They are 26 teeth spline on the input shaft of the spine and all clutch components. Our cars are 22 Teeth for RWD cars. For the Xdrive might be a different story but I have not seen a manual 328I X drive.
Also the clutch getting hot warning is common if you ride the clutch(not properly using it) a lot in stop and go and when it's over 75+ degrees. Or it might be a sign that the clutch pressure plate which is self adjusting, has an issue with the springs and is applying pressure and not releasing all the way when you let off the clutch pedal, which will wear your clutch overtime. Test out your clutch by finding a steep hill and put it in 4th gear and FLOOR IT to the bottom. See if your car starts to slip or if it holds the power and climbs. Do this while going around 30 MPH up the hill. This will tell if your clutch is going out. |

The clutch doesn't smell when I get this warning, & I'm certainly not abusing it in any way I haven't abused clutches before. So is this just another example of the 'extreme nanny' attitude BMW now program into their cars?
