HK Amp Replacement...can I use a different P/N? *UPDATE: Resolved*

Hey guys I have a HK amp that got water damaged.

Can I use another HK amp with different P/N from the same chassis? (how about 4er? 2/5/6er?)
Does this require coding if different? If so, how or where do I get this coding done?

I just want sound back in my car

*UPDATE*

I found a company in TX called Logic7amp.
They tried to fix my amp but it was too corroded. They replaced it with another amp and coded it for my VIN for $650. Works perfectly now.
Hit them up if you guys need HK amp work. Apparently they get a lot of F-series HK amps w/ water damage.

You need to check the compatibility of the two parts on a site such as Realoem.

Do you have the damaged part number?

I guess I am not completely understanding the bilateral vs retrospective exchangeability.

As I understand it, Bilaterally means both ways.

1. in a way that involves or affects both sides.
2. in a way that involves two parties, especially countries.

So this means an older part can be used instead of a equal or newer part.

ret·ro·spec·tive·ly

with consideration of past events or situations.
"medical records were retrospectively reviewed on 120 patients"
with effect from a date in the past.
"the rebates apply retrospectively from 1 April"

retrospectively refers to past (or retrospect), so that means the newer part can replace the older part, but not necessarily the other way around.

At least that's how I understand it.

As thus:

Thats how I understood it too, but...if you select say a 2014 P/N on that list...it will say my Amp (277212) is bilateral.

To confuse things further...if you look at the newer amps on the list, 2014 for example, some 2012 production are retro, while other 2012 productions are bilateral.

Normally I wouldn't mind to wing it, but amps are running $600-1000 USD used

As I explained it, what you posted makes total sense.

Great customer service, helped me trouble shoot when I installed the amp, I had a 5A fuse break during my water ingress, and that killed power to my fiber optic emitter, so I still had MOST-Ring errors, the guy knew exactly what to look for over the phone, I ran to Autozone real quick to get a small frame fuse, car stereo works amazing again.

bringing this back ... how did you find that company? Google doesnt turn up anything from TX. What is their phone number?

my HK amp died so i'm looking for a repair or a replacement. Did the other AMP you installed have a matching part # to the old one?

Logic 7 is the name of the BMW amp/system, which is subject to copyright, so I doubt any company can use it as their business name.

It appears they changed domains. New website is: bavlogic.com

I believe they can use the name itself, as for example; "loGic7" but not the logo design and unique italicization is proprietary.

Heres the website.

No, the replacement amp did not match the P/N. They can use to the same case and just replace the board, but I did not care.
The first replacement Amp for some reason lost the coding after a week of use. So they sent me another amp, this one with the same case P/N (it was actually my old case) and everything is working fine since. They updated the software on the amp too supposedly, obviously I cannot verify that.

Hope this helps.

late seeing this ... appreciate it all the responses. i did locate them eventually and spoke to the gentleman there. he sounds like he knows his stuff but i ended up not needing his services since i was able to locate a used working unit for $300 locally.

To close the loop on this, a matching part # top HiFi/HK amp (and ASD module -- in my case the ASD module came with the replacement amp since they share a mounting bracket and the dismantler didn't bother removing it) will plug right in and work without any programming.

The only clue that the amp was replaced is when you scan the car with INPA D, a fault is present indicating the amp does not match the VIN of the vehicle. I found a guy that can VIN code the amp but haven't gotten around to it. It does work perfectly though.

During the process, i also spoke to Becker audio and they also offer a repair service, although they quoted me around $900 for the repair if any of the circuit boards were to require replacement. A new unit runs about $1300, even after a sizeable discount.
