Just yesterday somebody cut me off and I had to hit the brakes hard. The guy behind me started honking at me. Go figure.

I find MB drivers to be the most obnoxious in this respect. BMWs don't get that negativity around here. They are so popular and common that we're definitely not in a minority.

People cut you off because they are dicks, it doesn't have anything to do with your car. They are impatient and have no consideration for others along with understanding of the situation...they don't give a shit about what car they get in front of so long as it's "OMG THIS RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ARRGGGG SWERVE LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT MUST GO 75 INSTEAD OF 70 AND GET TO WORK 5 MIN EARLIER ARRRRGGG"

I was doing only 40km/hr (~25 mph) in a construction zone and the guy was screaming at me to slow down!! Maybe it was the exhaust sound (I was in 1st) or maybe the car looks fast, or maybe it is the BMW stereotype, who knows!

Hating BMW drivers

Here in New York City, there appears to be a new traffic law that has gone into effect recently. The minute the light turns green, an idiot behind you slams their hand onto their horn indicating you haven't accelerated quickly enough for their satisfaction.

Its not just the other drivers, its also your car to a certain extent. I recently drove a 2000 Acura (a.k.a Old Civic) and noticed that everyone else is driving just fine . Paid attention to speeds and realized that others are doing the same speeds as when I'm in the BMW.

Turns out I'm just faster and more impatient in the BMW.

If someone is going to hate me because I have a super awesome car then they can get stuffed. Instead of hating me they should ask for a ride. Lets go!

It may just be that case where if everyone seems crazy - maybe I'm the problem...but I really don't think so - I haven't changed my driving style (the previous car was 300hp+ as well).

Anyone had this type of sensation after switching to a BMW ?
Apparently lots of jerks out there drive BMWs.
I heard it from more than one person that BMW drivers are jerks

I get no trouble when driving my wife's vw golf.

However in the Beemer it is just the complete opposite. It frustrates me no end! Grrrr!

Another thing I find over here in Australia is that it is usually the 2nd owner onwards, driving an old model BMW or bottom of the range model who drive like dicks. Like they have something to prove.

This shit happens to me ALL the time on i4 going to Tampa, they'll literally cut over as I'm about to pass in the left lane. Drives me mental

I think in Florida it's the Prius drivers who are least connected to the realm of reality when it comes to driving. If you drive a Prius you have no concern over the actually driving experience.

I haven't noticed any changes. But it could be that around here, everyone and their grandmother drives a BMW or some other luxury car. It's not very uncommon to be at a stoplight and immediately spot 5-6 BMW's waiting at the light. Just yesterday going home from work, while pulling into my complex the cars that were in my immediate area were an E46 M3, an F10 M5, and an E60 535i.

I do get some grief from S4's sometimes but that's about it.

I'm not so certain it's the car as much as the other driver. My current daily driver is a 2009 Jetta. It is not uncommon for someone to come up the a stop sign, look right at me and then pull out in front of me making me brake hard! My car is red with DRLs, you cannot tell me they didn't see me! Maybe it's because it's a station wagon and they think I'm a slow driver. I don't know, but it's frustrating, to say the least.

I can tell you that yesterday when that contractor truck cut me off without signaling and I closed in on him at 120 mph, he moved back to his lane REAL QUICK.

I don't think this is a new at all. When I was in Manhattan in the early '70s, this was a common occurrence. I would stand on the corner and laugh my a$$ off listening to all of these horns the second the light turned green. Being from a small town, I thought this was hilarious.

I thought one of the mayors convinced the city council to pass an ordinance prohibiting this. Giuliani maybe, but I thought it was before him.

x2, the times I've been there hasn't been any different. When I drove up there last March people were honking proudly, myself included.
