N20 Timing Chain Whine? VIDEO
Hey guys, I'm looking for a F30 and I think I found a suitable one, however the video linked below seems to indicate a whining noise that aligns with worn oil pump gear components. 82k on the car.
Is this serious or normal? Should I pass? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1q47SdG-PP9QzkxN2NhNEdEa0E/view?usp=sharing Thank you |

Thats deff a worn out timing chain gears, I can tell from the whine, If no warranty on the car I would deff pass, if it brakes and no warranty its $3500 minimum to fix it

Thats what I figured. I checked out one in person today for comparison and it didn't have the whining. Here is a post for more information and some more videos of whining chaing.
I'll keep looking for one with CPO warranty or at least one that doesn't whine. Really sucks the engine has this achilles heel, even if its a somewhat uncommon failure. https://bmwtechnician.com/2016/08/07...g-chain-issue/ |

If you're unsure if it's the timing chain take off the oil filler cap and listen as close as you can to there. That's where the chain noise is loudest. Put a rag across the opening first so you don't get doused with oil.

I'm thinking this is what it sounds like in its earlier stage and as it gets worse it becomes more high pitched and pronounced like the other videos online.
