F30/F31 drivers side glovebox retrofit DIY
Ok so my first post on this forum. Hope it's helpful to others.
This was done on a UK RHD F31 and is for the models without the lane assist buttons located in the space where the glovebox needs to go. Photos explained below Cost of parts from main dealer. Purchased August 2018. Prices in £. Location where glovebox will be fitted Side view. Release spigot (bu lightly squeezing with pliers) on both sides and remove flap Draw round front of casing onto plain card Refit flap Cutout inner hole of card to make template which housing can slide into. With template fitted to housing, draw round outer edge of flap on same piece of card Now cutout outer edge of template Notice when you have trimmed template, bit of card should show when door is opened indicating door extends slights past housing when closed. Remove air vent by pulling top towards you and then lifting upwards off the hooks Reach through hole and push light switch module out off dash Undo 2 underdash 10mm bolts and lower panel (makes life easier). Remove sound insulation from back of cutting area. (Sticky pad) Blue tack template into position. Put dust sheet behind dash. Very messy when cutting Drill series of small (i used 3mm) holes all the way round INNER edge of template. The complicated bits shown on the corners on my template weren't actually necessary as the housing overlaps these areas. Use cutting tool (or whatever you have) to join the 3mm holes up File rough edges and ensure snug fit with additional filing if necessary. Box fits tightly but ensure door opens freely when fitted. When putting through hole, it needs a little manhandling as it hits structure behind. Goes in at an angle to start with then push down. Put supporting plate over the top of glovebox (locates on a groove) and tighten with T20 torx with 2 screws which you should have purchased. Cut and reattach sound insulation on top of glovebox. Refit light switch and air vent. That's it. Good luck Best bits of advice...... Take plenty of time making the template. Chain drill inside the template. Cover everything in dust sheets including centre console and steering wheel area. Last edited by 678hug; 09-25-2018 at 03:12 PM.. |
