BMW Repair Cost Guessing Game....

Minor prang on the way back tonight, young lad didn't stop in time, I do feel for the guy, the A12 is shit like that and I had bigger brakes so I stopped and he didn't.

Damage isn't that bad but...

Its the Bumper, tow bar and boot that have taken a wallop, and having had a towbar fitted in the factory there is no rear bumper absorption bracket so the force went straight into the car and me - so I have a sore back and neck tonight which is bloody irritating.

This also means the bumper is cut in several places as the brackets came through.

Sorry for the over size pics, ill correct tomorrow.

oh and now none of the parking sensors work - even the front ones, or the rear camera -

I am interested that the bumper stayed in place as there was no deflection, but I reckon this is because the tow bar just fucked the bumper and the car that hit me...

so I start the bidding about 4k?

oh plus the rear half will need the G-techniq re applying

Bent chassis too perhaps courtesy of the direct tow bar shunt...?

I was gonna say 6k too but since that’s taken I’ll go with 5.5k!

Actually, just saw the tow bar damage...............err................that makes my guess null and void.

Much more at a guess if it was enough of a punt to hurt

Bad luck fella, just get your body sorted....never mind the car.

I paid £1.5K for the rear bumper on the 330d four years ago.

If the towbar has taken the impact the you may also be faced with damage to the associated fixing points and boot floor and other under areas, so that could be very expensive..

What was he driving that damaged the bootlid too?!

Your rear would be higher under sharp braking, so his must have been pretty tall

I've had a similar one a few weeks back, but without the tow-bar and its come at just under 4k, but that included a new rear silencer as that was forced down in the impact.
Hope you'll be feeling better soon though, car can be fixed

I trust you did not express that sympathy to him. When someone hits you from behind it is always their fault. I was in my bro-in-laws car when he stalled it on a hill (he's a rubbish driver) and was hit from behind by a woman driver who stepped out of the car holding her mobile phone and telling the other party...have to go I've hit someone. She started off on a tack...why did you stop. I gently explained that it was her fault, no doubt influenced by her being on the phone and we would let the insurance sort it out. Following day the insurance rang to say she accepted responsibility. Bad news is his car was written off because of a distorted floor pan. I was hugely surprised as it was no more than a 10mph (guessing) shunt and I assumed a new bumper and some paintwork on the wing.

£8k

Based on having just being quoted £1k by BMW to fix a rear door with a single shallow dent that has damaged the paint.

How far did you have to bend over for that !! I recently had a scrape by others to one door, although no dent, it still had the whole door painted and blown into the front wing and rear door £380, so add in a small dent no more that £500 in my book.

Not with BMW but a much better jobby !

BMW were cheaper than a local place for the work! Dent, door and rear wing blend. Still waiting for the offenders to cough up though.

I expressed as much empathy towards a shit situation as any other compassionate human being, I did not exonerate him of his obvious responsibilities

So update, Unsurprisingly the chap admitted liability and the investigation / repair has been authorised.

I have a courtesy jag XF and it’s shite but better than a 108 or Igo

Body shop reckons thick end of 6k depending on what they find when they strip it down, need to find someone to re apply the gtechniq.

Drugs sorted for back and I’m now tired and grumpy about it!

Hmmm £6k you say. Do I win a prize for the nearest guess?

When the final numbers are in I’ll confirm but you might win a broken bumper (collection only) and a empty codine box :-)

I'm going for write off. When they strip it and find your tow bar has ripped the floor pan mountings....
