Fitting MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT (245/40-R18 / 97Y) on F30 335 Xdrive
Hey Guys,
I have a stock 2015 F30 335 Xdrive with stock rims and tires. Sport line. Wondering if there will be any problems fitting MICHELIN PILOT SUPER SPORT 245/40-R18 tires on 18x8.5 all around square setup wheels. My car is leased so I don't want to mess anything up. Photos would be great also. |

I am putting the same size 245/40 on a new set of 18x8.5 wheels this week. This is very similar to the stock setup of 225/45 on 18x8 wheels. They are slightly shorter in diameter but highly unlikely to cause any issue.

What about it, you fear the profile is too low? That would be really funny considering what most here run. I have a square 8.5" setup with 245/35R20´s, MPSS and no problem at all.

There won't be any issue with those tires. On my F31 xDrive I run 245/40/18 Michelin PSS's on the stock 400M 18" wheels without any rubbing at all, not even close. The tires are very similar in size to the stock 225/45/18 Conti ProContact SSRs.

My comment is related to your original post where you mention having 8.5" rims. I guess that was an oversight?

Yeah well thats a relief, I just feel the 8 inch stock look too slim and want a Beefer square stance for my car.

Your tire and wheel size 18"x8" are what Tirerack used in testing high performance all season run flats. They used a 2012 F30 328. So as the others have said, you're fine.
Plus quite a bit difference in choice with the 245/40, thanks. |

So performance/comfort wise there doesnt have to be any con at all, if the weight is kept down (at the cost, of the cost). So it´s basically down to how much u are willing to spend

I'm running 235/40/18 square as one of my setups on 18x8.5 Apex Arc 8 wheels. Also a 335 xdrive.
That was the main recommended size by Apex. 245/40/18 was a secondary option they recommended. I didn't do the math myself, but I'm assuming 235 wide is probably a little closer to stock spec than 245, but both are within the 3% threshold? |

235/40/18 is far from "seriously" undersized. It is still within the 3% threshold so is still well within acceptable size. 235/40/18 is approximately 2.4% smaller than 255/40/18. Naturally the 245 width will be even closer to the OEM 18" sizing and a better option. This does make me wonder why APEX would recommend a 235 width tire over a 245 width if the 245 is even closer to stock spec. Maybe the 235 wide works better with an 8.5" wide wheel? I'm going to ask! |

I think he recommended the 235 as a better fit for a 8.5" wheel seeing both 235 and 245 are both within spec (within 3% threshold). I still haven't had the chance to send them a message to clarify. Will see what they say. |
