about to Order a 335 (Toronto) But...
I'm afraid a new predecessor to the 335i and N55 engine will be announced at the Paris Auto Show in October and with Launch date of February 2013. (just like how the F30 was announced in November 2011 with launch date of February 2012)
And that would suck to be stuck with a discontinued model, specially since I want to buy back the car after the lease end. Is there any substance to the rumours here: http://www.autospies.com/news/EXCLUS...rprises-70574/ Im thinking of holding off for now.. What should I do? |

Sorry, do you really expect an answer that will clear it up from the forum? If you'll agonize about having an n55 engine of they come out with a new one then you've already answered your own question.

the e90 330 engine got bumped to the 335 n54 ~1.5 years later.
But if they did show it off at Paris in October, when would it go on sale in NA?? March/June/Sept? |

I don't know what you're looking for here. Nobody knows.. Anything anybody says about power increases, or new products etc is just speculation.
Are you going to make your purchase on speculation? I think you are the one in denial... You need to figure out what's important to you. Can you wait? If so, then why not wait an find out what's coming. I'm sure we'll know in a couple months. Do you need a car right away? Well then that settles it. If the car today meets your needs then go for it. If you are worried then wait. It really is that simple. |

**high residuals make for great leasing but make piss poor lease->buy scenarios. The only time it actually it is beneficial to intentionally lease->buy from the start is when you have LOW residuals and LOW MF rates (as in lower than new car loan rates.............Audi anyone?). That way you're financing a large bulk of depreciation with a extra low rate. The BMW MF rate is higher than a new car loan rate (and would also be lower than a lease buyout rate if you'd buy it out cash), why pay the extra interest? |

Dealers can buy off lease turn-ins from BMWFS for closer to manheim rather than residual. This depends on market conditions. If you have a good working relationship with a CA or Sales Manager, this is the perfect scenario.
1) Lease with a high sales supported residual. 2) Turn car in to said dealer after checking their discounted buy rate. 3) Rebuy the car for a pre-negotiated price. Best case scenario. But when the stars align, it's golden.

"Our Spies tell us it will jump at least 20hp, add even more torque and new 8-speed trannies plus start stop technology, they will have the competitors running to the labs when they see the combination of power to fuel economy."
You can add 20-30hp to your car with the Performance Power Kit that's coming in December 2012. |

If you're planning on keeping the car after lease end(like me), I would stick with the N55 because it's got a great blend of power, reliability(so far), and efficiency. It's also got room to increase power. The article says they heard it will jump 20 horses and have more torque. Sounds like the same amount of increase you get from the BMW performance kit for the N55 which is a great mod. N55 FTW!

OP: since you're in doubt, it's better if you wait. On top of the new engine, you may get the new iDrive as well, who knows.
but, I do agree with sumithb13 that the N55 is sort of seasoned already. compared to N54, the N55 so far has lesser issues with HPFP (i don't have actual stats, just my impression from this forum) |
