I've seen some people tout the 328i as being the enthusiast's car as well. They keep stating how nimble it is.
Like I said, give me an example of a 328i owner seriously bashing a 335i. To me they are both enthusiasts cars, the 335i has better acceleration and sound, the 328i better mpg and handling (according to reviews). Nothing wrong with either if you prefer one over the other. I do agree, people should stop trying to make it sound as if there is a night and day difference. There is not, at least for now, until the new 335i comes out. Then maybe the benefits if the 328i will cease to be a factor.

There is this guy named BJ (boltjames), who you can search for, who consistently bashes 335i owners. It has quieted down a lot more since he's been banned though. I won't plaster this thread with quotes, but I can PM them to you if you'd like

328i has 258 ft-lbs from 1,250 to 4,800 RPM

The N20 engine in the 328i has less torque, that comes later in the RPM band, and craps out sooner in the RPM band. Its torque curve is inferior in literally every measurable way. You are objectively full of shit.
You'll just confuse the issue with facts.
People want to believe that their opinions are facts.

The N55 has more power over all and across the whole rev band compared to the N20.

The N20 is a fantastic engine. It puts out great power and torque for it's size, and it does it with smoothness and grace.
Instead of being happy with that, seems some N20 drivers want to believe their 328i's are just as fast and FASTER than the 335i.

And then there's the power to weight claims.
Ok, here it is:
We'll use the AT, because it's the same trans in either version F30.
328i - 3410 lbs, 240hp, 255lb ft.
3410 divided by 240 = 14.21lb per 1hp
3410 divided by 255 = 13.37lb per 1lb ft.

335i - 3555 lbs, 300hp, 300lb ft.
3555 divided by 300 = 11.85lb per 1hp
3555 divided by 300 = 11.85lb ft per 1lb ft.

Power to weight does not favor the 328i.

Exactly how heavy do some think the 335i really is?
BMW lists the weight of the base 328i and 335i.
The difference is 145lbs.

I said "seriously" bashing the 335i. That BJ guy purposely put BS out there. If anyone took that serious then the jokes on them. I mean, he argued the cars from SA were lesser than German built cars. He just liked to stoke the fire.

In the US, the average household income is $49,000 USD a year. Those people cannot afford a $600 monthly payment on a car. Their average mortgage payment is near that amount.

I live 20 minutes from Manhattan in a 3,000 square foot $1.5M USD home. Perhaps you live in London with a $1.5M USD flat. When you and I refer to "people trying to look wealthy in a 3 Series" we're not judging them by our experience; we're judging them by theirs.

As for myself, I drive a 3 Series because it's the least expensive way I can drive a safe, fun car that's socially acceptable by the wealthy crowd I run with. They drive $140,000 CLS' and I drive a $50,000 328i. They view me as smart and financially responsible, not flashy.

You drive a 328i to be "socially acceptable" within your 'wealthy' crowd?
I find that amusing.

The configuration of an inline 6 is iconic to BMW.
The fact that the N54 and N55 have turbo's does not remove them from that line of engines.

The N54 was based on an earlier NA 3.0 6.
The N55 was the truly new inline 6 turbo as it combined other BMW technologies like servotronic and twin scroll turbo.

These engines are based on the iconic BMW inline 6.
It's not like they are V6's or inline 5's or V4's.

You're a bitter person.

Tell you what, when we talk about things about BMW, or the 3 series, simply assume we are talking about the US.
After all, this is a US website, filled with a majority of US members.
Thus, most comments will be about what is happening in a country that actually matters and not some cold place north of mainland Europe.
The world actually does revolve around the US.

So, how do you like it?

You seem a bit touchy.

I posted because I wanted to respond to that post, not that I need to explain myself to you. Just saying.

Oh, and thanks for letting me know about the 328i and 335i, as if I didn't know.
I have a 335i Msport. My 3rd BMW.
Thanks anywhooooo.

Its been going on since February, not sure if it will ever end.
This whole thread is an example of that hate.

There are very few 335i owners with a bad attitude who think the 328i is for non enthusiasts.
That view is NOT shared by most 335i owners.

In this thread 335i owners have been called "foolish" by a 328i owner..
The whole point of this thread is to question why anyone would get a 335i instead of a 335i.
There's a post in this thread by a 328i owner who had a 335i loaner and questioned it's performance.
There are comments about the 328i having better power to weight, or more torque at low rpm.
It goes on.
The comments are intended to nullify and demean the 335i and it's owners.
So it's logical that some 335i owners would feel as that poster you responded to does, because why else would 328i owners make those comments?
There are more examples in other threads.
Perhaps you're missing them because you're not being objective enough to see them.

I'm not one to disparage the 328i.
Anyone can read my posts and see that I praise the 328i and have never seen it as lesser than a 335i.

Peace.

Aha, so therefore we should assume BMW is developing their cars solely for the American market, thus "marketing the 335i" for a specific crowd over there? Hah, please..

Actually the milk WAS sour this morning, but whats your excuse for the need to brag bout what car you drive and how many bimmeers youīve had? You pay around 60% of what we pay for them here so the cool factor just died there

Let's be honest as well, the 335i is faster and more powerful, and the margin is not negligible, testing confirms this.
Those numbers have meaning to those who look at those things.
If it doesn't matter to you, then let it go and don't sweat it.
Peace.
And again, buhu, talk about victimizing yourself haha itīs freakin pathetic how you make it seem like you guys are being attacked by people and justifying you counter attacks. Cause thats how it is right, 335i owners are better and donīt attack the lesser 328i owners.. you just defend

Itīs really silly, anyone with a 328i trying to bash on the 335i is just jealous and the other way around is to make their 335i more of a monster than it is. Go play with sticks boys.

i personally think you are blowing the "hate" in this thread out of proportion. there are a few comments from BJ, who is only trying to create a stir. The other "questioning the performance" was just a review, and mostly directed at the sport vs m-sport difference. other than BJ, who was trying to demean the 335i? saying that you don't value the extra HP is not demeaning.

Sorry but I'm gonna answer..,that can't be a rhetorical question...OK you got me when I said " on this thread", I miss spoke (but there have been many 328 vs 335 threads on this and other forums)and yes Bolt James was just a troll trying to start and argument and I played his game just to screw with him & hopefully his replies to me were what got him banned. I logged on and couldn't believe this thread was still going. The whole opening question is absurd..So I answered it straight as can be. Its marketed to someone who wants to buy a car..period This argument has been going since these 2 cars have existed and I'm not talking about just the F30.

. MAybe its a cultural thing but when I said "Hate" I only meant people ragging on other peoples cars that are pretty damn close to the same.At a quick glance most people wouldn't know the difference between the 2. Some people do drive around with sense that they are better then the next guy because he has the 335 and vice versa because someone else is driving the newest version of the car.Like it or not this does go on & there was a thread where someone said that a 328( not boltJames) was all anyone what ever need and the only reason to opt for the 335 was because you have something to prove and the typical owner wanted to race at ever light and show off. As someone else has already stated , some of the discussion going on here is exactly the "hate " i was talking about, but most people on here are cool and will come with straight facts. The 335 is more powerful, period. & yes I know we aren't talking about BMX vs R1's thats why I said "its only 300 HP we're talking about". I was defending both cars & that was my main point. they are both great cars. One has more power, that can't be denied, so why argue the point? SOrry to get you're panties in a bunch...Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! ( that was a joke, I know you're from Sweden)
BTW, I was taking my M3 to put it away for the winter. A younger guy pulls up along side me in a beautiful 328. I looked over to give him the . He gives me a dirty look and tears ass when the light turns green,,,,HAte???? what else

He gives me a dirty look and tears ass when the light turns green,,,,HAte???? what else
Youīre kind of preaching to the choir a bit there, what u just said is basically my view of this. But I hear u

Yeah I hear ya, but ya know.I was pretty young when I got my first BMW 3 series. By no means did I think it was a rocket or look down on anyone. I like cars , all kinds. My collection is all over the place. German & American mostly but maybe I'll get to slide something from Italy( I was thinking more around the Maserati line,,, Gran Turismo). But I've learned to just shake my head and laugh. I have nothing to prove. I guess thats why the arguing about cars that are basically the same seems so stupid to me. We basically all love the same car. So why argue. Maybe the OP didn't mean the question as inflammatory, but isn't the answer obvious??? but we have 200 responses about horsepower differences & sooner or later someones says something stupid BTW I wish we had the choices you guys get...now the prices you pay,,thats a different story

Indeed.

For that matter, all the posturing about which $50,000 mass-produced sports/luxury sedan, regardless of make, is better is equally stupid; all of these cars are vastly more similar than different.
