Looking do go with a DP here in NYC and was wondering

So as the title says I'm looking to put a DP on but here in the city I'm really worried about emissions if I go with catless... that catted FabSpeed is a really hard pill to swallow at $1400...

Was wondering what others are doing for emissions etc...

I have a Catless downpipe and I'm sure with BM3 it'll clear and pass emissions. Correct me if I'm wrong.

bm3 will just clear the code so the catless DP won't show up as a check engine light but that doesn't allow you to pass emissions.

Now before OBD port testing when they still shove a sensor in the tailpipe... I had the cats removed on my mustang and I just drove around till it was nice and FULLY warmed up and it passed no problem... cats usually are for when the engine is cold and unburnt fuel is then more prominent... but today... I don't know... I don't want to spend a few hundred on a non-cat and then find out I gotta buy one with a cat... and at $1,400 is just crazy...

That's the same issue I'm dealing with. I'd like to eventually go to bm3 stage 2, but if I have to worry about failing emissions or swapping a DP every year it's honestly not worth it for me. There's a bunch of threads on this but I've yet to find an actual answer on how people pass emissions in NY.

Now that we are on the topic...

What are people living in California doing to get around this issue?

Im on the fence about installing a catless DP as well. I want it for the performance increase but not looking to swap it out every time and emissions check comes up.

How often to our cars need to be smog checked in Cali? Ive only been out here 13 months so far so Im not very well versed in emissions requirements.

Yep, looking for an answer to this as well. I'd like to go stage 2 but can't justify the constant headache of swapping the DP if we can't pass emissions. I've heard members that ran catted DPs and still got a CEL but not sure how that translates into emissions. I'd assume if the DME can pick up something off and throw a CEL, the emissions test will surely do the same even after CEL is cleared.

http://www.******.ca/product/io2-uni...sor-simulator/

"This is a programmed unit to read the rear o2 sensor voltage and output a conditioned voltage to allow the engine computer to pass all testing related to catalysts"

As per ******, the simulator is for "off road/track use only."

That being said, this was a solution for a friend of mine.

Nice... I still want to go Hi-Flow Cats just cause of the smell I keep reading about.... I'm in a enclosed parking garage and don't want to start any issues... So i guess with this just wondering what cat to get without breaking the bank...

how's it compared to the vrsf?

Keep your old exhaust and switch back when you need to go for emission test.

@Jadenkid22 true car enthusiasts or not in ny you're still gonna pony up some dough to get that sticker. Unless that shop owner is ur best buddy/or/ you're pockets are deep. Asking for a mechanic shop buddy

I don't know if you guys saw my posting over in the other thread... but expect from doing a dead dig drag race... your only going to get a couple of Hp between 5200 and redline... which is basically your shifting points for all the other 7 gears.... plus the stink of it all and I'm in a enclosed garage and don't need the headache of others complaining... so gonna stick with stock dp... this is only for the 2014 and up models cause they have a 4" pipe... 2013 I'd probably do it since it's only 3 1/2" pipe...

Here's that post....

Lol... but seriously.... as called out before... there is virtually no difference in power in the upper power band of the motor revs.... the small gain does not even come close to justifying the headache and cost of it on 2014/ 2015 models especially since they are already 4" pipes.... that DP recommendation is for 2013 and older models.... until someone posts a dyno chart on a 2014newer with and with out I stand by my opinion... the video that I posted clearly shows the results I'm talking about... only benefit would be for a slight couple of tenths of a second of time you can benefit from it only from a dead dig drag race....after that your motors lowest rpm is around 5200rpm when shifting thru the gears at full throttle which the video clearly shows is no real major gains..... not worth it...

So I'm saying yes you can run stage 2 BM3 or MHD Stage 2+ no problem on 2014/15 models... I just wouldn't track the car for fear of burning the catalaytic convertor out... but an occasional romp on it during daily driving isn't gonna hurt anything....

Here's the video again showing the results.... again... at full throttle your cars rpm doesn't go below 5200rpm when shifting gears... only advantage is from a dead dig drag race the first few milliseconds ...after that it doesn't matter.... so if your on the freeway and jump on it full throttle... there is basically no difference in power... see chart at 3:35

So i was just faced with the issue of having to pass emissions with a DP installed and it just doesnt work out. Im also running a JB4 with the CEL delete software.
Though i had no CEL none of the modules read ready when the obd2 is checked for emissions test.
The amount of $$ folks were asking in order to pass me under the table was insane. 350+.
For WAY less i found a shop in Long Island that was willing to reinstall my oem and then install the dp again once i passed.
i disabled, JB4 drove home (about 20 miles) and next morning went for inspection.
Havent gone back to get the DP installed yet...waiting on intercooler and charge pipe to be shipped so i can have him just install everything at once.

Ps. I switche to bm3 as well.
