340i xdrive front suspension creak/scraping after pothole
I'm trying to narrow down a suspension noise, I know the best answer is to take it to the shop but every time I do the noise decides to hide itself. Here is what I know for sure:
- Happens only once the car is warmed up (leads me to believe its a bushing) - The sound is metal on metal, almost like a creak or scraping noise - It is coming from the drivers side area predominantly from the top of the front strut area - It is mostly audible with the windows up travelling over bumps or uneven roads. Even a bump under the right tire triggers it. At first it was only at low speeds, now it's all speeds. - I smoked a pothole a few weeks ago, and this started happening immediately after. Car is a 2016 340i xdrive with EDC. Stock suspension otherwise. Any advice appreciated! |

If the issue consistently happens ("a bump under the right tire triggers it"), a shop visit would be the best option. The car will be on a lift and all suspension components can be inspected.

As a follow up, I figured it out after swapping new spark plugs & ignition coils. The e-torx bolts on the strut brace came completely loose and the rattle sound was the metal bouncing around. Two shops couldn't figure it out either, but this was 100% my fault.
