well, I got a new 4 series.....
for at least the next 24 hours anyway.....
Got a check engine light on my 2015 428i with 38,000m last week so I went an borrowed the reader from Autozone and it was code P0597 "Thermostat heater control unit circuit open" so great, I start searching YouTube to see if I can replace it myself and start searching parts but luckily I checked good old bimmerpost also and found a thread and someone mentioned BMW warrantee on those is 10 years or 120K miles on certain models, so I call local BMW and lucky me, they do!! gotta love BMW, call them at 3pm they get me a spot at 4pm drop off and loaner...nice!! I am the lucky guy who got their brand new 430 with only 14 miles on her..... first impressions, hate the looks....that grill is just not doing it for me. This is one of those rare step backwards in the next gen cars looks dept, but the interior is nice and I love the digital instrument cluster and all the other cool new gadgets...love the wireless charger....funny, they finally figured out a way to get BMW drivers to use their blinkers the annoying lane departure feature activates every time you change lanes unless you use your blinker..startled me at first as it fights you a bit and shakes the steering wheel. I was like wtf??? lol Didn't drive it much today, but not bad for a base model 430 with customizable sport setting. trying to upload some photos, but having issues....I'll try using my phone to post them Last edited by SoCal_NSX; 02-25-2021 at 02:05 PM.. |

Is this BMW of Murrieta? They always have some pretty sweet loaners. Had a g20 loaner when it first came out and handful of the new 2 series. I hate all the new safety features, make me lose my mind lol

Really like the wheels on your car. Mind sharing what they are and any specs?

You nailed it. The new 4, engineering wise is great. They better fix that schnozz with the LCI.

What's your take on it? I drove the G20 and liked the steering the most, and new up to date gadgetry but it felt also had a bit of "good modern appliance" vibes for myself personally.
Mine was not the fairest since it was 440 RWD stick to 330xi auto but aside from the steering, mine had a bit more emotion factor to it. But curious re your take since it's quite apples to apples. |

well, BMW just sent me the inspection video which is pretty cool how they actually show you instead of just tell you .....anyways, he showed the motor mounts were starting to wear thin and a tiny bit of oil leak from the rear main seal.
unfortunately my CPO expired a year ago, but I'm kind of surprised that a car with only 38000 miles already needs new motor mounts??? Luckily the oil leak was minimal, but still concerning....luckily the thermostat is under warranty tho. Is that normal for the motor mounts to wear so quickly on a car that is babied? I'll let you know the estimate once I go pick her up. |

I don’t care for that maw of a grill either. As for the lane departure warning, it’s actually less intrusive than other cars that beep at you and the passengers at every minor infraction. Mine can also be turned off. Get used to it, it’s becoming widespread. And PS - there’s nothing wrong with turning on your signal light before changing lanes... just saying!

The new 4 series is fugly with a capital fugly. Such a shame too I was so looking forward to the new iteration. I would have gotten one instead of an F32 if it was remotely like the new 3 series. The m340i's aren't bad at all and are super quick.

My local dealer uses the the loaners as a marketing ploy. They will give you an equal or "better" car to give you something to think about when deciding to "upgrade your car" (dealer's words, not mine). The last few times I've been in with my F32, I've received two 5 Series and most recently an M4 Heritage Edition. I will say they are the exception and not the norm around here. The place I bought the car from typically will give you an X1, X3, or X5. They have a whole fleet of them as loaners.

ugh, not a fan here either.
I actually saw my first one in person a couple days ago and almost had a physical reaction. I think it is worse when it isn't a higher trimmed model too. I remember when folks were this disgusted with the E60. In the last couple of years, people are coming to appreciate it. wonder if that will happen here. I still strongly dislike the E60.

damn... my local dealer won't even give loaners unless you buy from them.
on the off chance you can score one (sometimes on warranty work, never just maintenance) it's a stripped down X1 or 320. I just had to drive a Ford Escape around for a week while they looked at a brake problem... also, yes I agree the new grill looks bad on the white model. I wandered the lot and think it looks so nice on dark colors like black, blue, gray, etc...

I saw one at my dealership a while ago and it looks just as bad, if not worse, in person that in pics. Looks like an 8-series got stuck in a dryer and shrank before being beaten with a Chris Bangle ugly stick.
Hate the weird hexagonal tach and speedo too. So glad I got an F32 in their last year.
