Oil Drain Plug

I believe some have a plastic plug, while others have a metal plug. Is it possible to replace the plastic drain plug with a metal one?

Thanks

The plastic plug is used on plastic oil pans, so that it won't strip the threads on the pan. They're not interchangeable. I believe only XDrive N20 have metal oil pans.

The oil change kit should include the drain plug. The filter should come with new gaskets that you apply oil to and install on the filter before installing the filter.

Depends on the filter. If you have a plastic pan and get the right one it will contain a new plug. If you have a metal pan and get the right one it will have a new washer for the metal plug. Get the wrong one and you won't have what you need.

If I'm not mistaken RWD 328i's get new plastic plugs with oil changes. AWD vehicles get new crush washers and reuse plugs:
