328 vs 320 exhaust question

What is the difference between the two?

Anything other than the single outlet (320) / dual outlet (328) ?

That and I don't believe the 320i has an N26 variant, so midpipe is different just in terms of not having a secondary cat.

Ah. Good point.

Im interested in whether or not a 320 axle back portion would make sense to swap in place of my 328 axle back. Probably a dumb idea but I wouldnt mind trying the single outlet rear exhaust look for a minute or two.

Not looking to spend a lot of money and figured I could probably source one very cheap or maybe even free if Im lucky.

What about the electronic valve component on the 328? What do people do when they put on a new exhaust that doesnt have that (assuming the 320 doesnt).

Are you going to put a bigger tip on the exhaust? Otherwise it might look odd in the dual slot. As for the valve, you just tuck the wiring up into the bumper. I haven't had a valve in a minute and that's what I did with mine. You won't get a CEL or anything OFC.

I have dual black slide over tips right now (which are larger). I was planning to re use one of those...

Is the opening on rear bumper actually different on 320 vs 328? I was not aware.

The goal would be to make sure it is pin straight/centered when I had it welded on.

Yeah, the opening on a 320i is smaller since it's only one tip vs. two. Take a look at Google and you'll see.

I see that... doh!

Probably wont do it lol.

Going to research other options... obviously in a perfect world I would swap the rear bumper and get a 335 looking exhaust but that would obviously be pretty expensive considering paint, parts, labor etc. At least a grand if Im looking at it right...

Back to the drawing board!

If you dont mind... what are the preferred direct swaps for 328 exhaust (axle back) that are direct bolt on and do not require bumper swap?

Both AWE and Remus offer the dual, one-sided axelback for our cars. I personally went with the quad and kept my baseline bumper and used the template AWE provided to cut out another exhaust slot for the other two tips. If you aren't looking to cut the bumper, then one of those two up above or finding another muffler and seeing if a good muffler shop can do some good work to make it line up/fit on your car. I personally just cut the bumper because I'll be swapping it for an M-Sport rear and tossing that old thing anyway.

M Performance Exhaust is always my first recommendation when people are looking for an axle back. I absolutely love mine, and it was cake to install, got it for 700 through eBay from a dealer. If you want single outlet though, I believe Active Autowerk offers a big oval single outlet axle back. Think Audi RS but only one side. Could be an interesting option for you: https://store.activeautowerke.com/co...e-bmw-f30-328i
Scroll down to the bottom of that link and you'll see the single oval outlet as well as hear the exhaust. Worth mentioning that I always like to caution against buying an exhaust based on sound in video. The MPE for example sounds WAY different in person than in video.

Nice mods, definitely also planning on chagning the rear bumper on my 328i, but was wondering if a diffuser would be a good replacement in your opinion until i can save up to grab the M style rear bumper and get that thing painted. Also as far as the exhaust id s concerned do you happen to know what the diameter of the muffler is for the inlet and dual outlets? Thanks!

Do they both mate to the same downpipe connection? I guess I'm trying to ask do the n20 in both 320 and 328 have the same exhaust?

I'm pretty sure the 328i piping is larger, but I could be wrong. I'll see if I can find where I thought I read that.

Edit: In general, the problem is that the midpipe in 320i is 60,2mm and in 328i it is 75mm.

If you don't have the M-Sport rear, then you don't have a diffuser to swap out. I personally just had mine cut to house the other tips.

As mentioned above, the diameter might be different for the MP but they share the same DP both OEM and aftermarket wise. So they are all interchangeable, but the 320i midpipe would just be smaller and to fit that or a 328i+ midpipe on the 320i would require an adapter as mentioned in the thread linked. For OP, if he is just going with the 320i muffler, he's fine since the clamp is the same size for the muffler.

Hey Guys. Relatively new to the whole modifying in cars. I have a 2014 320i with jb1 tune and a resonator delete. It sounds nice but I want to give it a more aggressive sound but not ignorant like while I'm in the neighborhood or going to school. What are the safest options for doing something like this.

You deleted the resonator after the secondary cat, correct?

Wasnt aware this would make a noticeable difference on its own.

Any pics of the work?

an axle-back muffler delete would probably be the cheapest and run you a few hundred at an exhaust shop.
