So....was it a “courtesy” install as requested or did you have to fork over $600+ ?

I forked 800 dollars which is cheap compared to when I added the LSD and the MPPSK
The mudflap I did myself since they wanted 400 for that LOL

The brakes and the oil/air filter was free

I made a request to BMW to see if they will give me some visa card for a design oversight, I'll update you guys if they respond.

Sharing an interim update. My local dealer is trying to find one part somewhere in the US for another dealer. This part is apparently backordered. Still waiting for BMW NA decision to cover the expense (or not).

Sound like BS my dealer order in on Friday and had it by Wednesday
Which is the normal length of time for them to receive parts

You still waiting on BMW NA's decision to cover the parts/labor? I wouldn't be willing to pay for this out of pocket, but would take a free install.

I have a 2018 440i GC buitd 12/05/2017 so I just missed this production change (assuming 12/20/2017 date listed by realoem.com is accurate). I picked up the car last weekend from a dealer 2 hours away, only have 300 miles on car since. I'm going to shoot an email out to my sales guy and ask him to go discuss with their service manager and see where it goes.

Here are some real world picture of the parts installed and a video from same link on babybmw.

Can still see smaller rock getting through that and causing a hole, but better than nothing. A small hole mesh like so would provide best protection.

Here is a traditional diagonal mesh installed, zip tied to grills. That size is probably equivalent on effectiveness to BMW ones and easy DIY. Not liking the zip ties to the kidney grills all that much but it does blend pretty well if you have black kidney grills. Would need to see it in person to pass more judgement. Wouldn't be worried about zip ties on the lower bumper grill since that wouldn't be seen from typical viewing angles of the vehicle.

Comprehensive on my insurance would cover a flying object damaging the radiator, and I only have a $250 deductible, so I could just "wait and see", and when/if I end up in the shop in need of a radiator replacement, I can make sure they use the revised parts at that time.

I'm in same position. BMWNA agreed to cover full cost of radiator repairs a few weeks ago as goodwill, but still nothing done. Delayed twice now. First time said part needed for mounting radiator and guards backordered. Not available in US, have to get from Germany, should be in next week. Next week came, still not in yet, they are all out in Germany too, have to wait for manufacturer to produce the part, another two weeks estimated. Been in loaner vehicle all this time and no firm date yet on when part will be available.

Just call them on the BS, inform them someone paid out of pocket and was able to have it installed within three days

Will do. Can you provide the source where your dealer got the backordered radiator mounting parts? Without that I don't have anything further to inquire about as I've already discussed a few times with them asking why it is delayed. They claim the part is unavailable, even in Germany.

I really don't understand what the dealer's incentive would be for keeping my car at this point. BMWNA has already informed them that the full cost of the repairs are covered including the new radiator and the guards. What do they gain by keeping me in their loaner vehicle another two weeks? I can't drive the car without a radiator.

The dealer has no incentives to delay the repair. It's the parts availability. My dealer also indicated the one part mentioned earlier in the thread has been back ordered.

I went in and spoke directly with parts guy other day. He said there were around 400 other orders in the system waiting on this part. No firm date on when they will produce the part. I asked him to contact BMWNA and see if they could at least give a better estimate.

Can the revised radiator be installed without the new mounts ? I have a punctured radiator and am looking to DIY the replacement, not planning on installing the rock guards.

If the new radiator does need the mounts, which part numbers are those ?

I know I just got a estimate from my dealer today for $1700 to replace the radiator due to a small rock, this includes $800 in parts for the radiator, mounts, adding rock guards, and coolant , and $900 for labor

Did they give you a timeframe for the parts? Been over two weeks now waiting for backordered mounting parts.

Good news, dealer did not have ETA when I asked last week. Car has now been there about a month.

The BMW radiator guard installation requires 3 parts. The cost is actually reasonable: $200 for all 3 BMW OEM parts.
