Check the extended warranty BMW recently made for N20 smoke at startup, it also covers past repair costs that were performed out of warranty

Blown Turbo video/sound
After a summer of tracking and running my stock turbo at 24-25 psi, it gave out. Here's a video of what it sounded like for anybody trying to diagnose.

edit: just noticed this happened years ago
You were lucky it was on warranty period. I bought a used car and the turbo was blown 4-5 months after, maybe around 80 or 85000 km. Its a big pain to the wallet, paid about 2000€ Also got that upgraded turbo oil line from that blog... but still scared to death that will happen again, to the point that ive been considering selling the car and get another car model. Is it a common problem for n20? Last edited by mallorca328; 08-12-2018 at 02:58 PM.. |

I know, but the guy hasn't been on the forums in 2 full years nearly. He's not going to respond... Just try not to bump an old thread unless it's relevant. Either PM the guy or if they haven't been around in a while, don't even bother. No hard feelings, letting you know

I don't think this... the white/blue smoke is usually from the oil feed line letting oil seep into the turbo after the car is turned off, and that oil burning off when the car is started next...

Correct. The white/bluish smoke is from the lack of a return valve in the original oil feed line that would cause oil to pool over long periods.
