List of performance mods for b58 ?

I am planning to get a 340 in about a month and just want to have a full list of all the mods available performance wise. Please add to the list if I am missing any. I was planning to get a 335 so I am new to the b58 field and know some mods are inapplicable or not sure if they exist for the b58
**This is not a list of specific mods but more so what can be modded on the car**

- Intake
- Turbo
- downpipe
- spark plugs
- charge pipe
- turbo inlet
-

-heat exchanger??
- diverter valve/blowoff valve??

Downpipe and a tune are your best bang for the buck. Plugs gapped down a bit will help too. The high pressure fuel pump becomes the limit when you start upgrading turbos.

My advice is also to start with dp and tune and after upgrade if you need more power, good luck!

I think this is a far from a universally agreed upon mod. I'd go with "maybe" instead of "certainly".

A lot of mod decisions for this platform stem from your fueling strategy. What fuels are easily available where you live? If it's pump gas only, or maybe even only 91 octane then you're going to be power limited unless you choose to add a meth system.

If you have ethanol easily available in your area, congrats - you have access to a lot more power, but may need to consider an upgraded HPFP.

The real question is - what is your power goal?

There is no diverter valve/Bov on the b58, it's an integrated recirculating system. Dont want to sound like a neon srt4 anyways lol, the b58 sings with a proper turbo back exhaust setup and intake 👌

Don't you agree that it would be more then just a maybe to provide the turbo with colder air, especially if you increase the flow? Would be a waste of a good turbo not to give it enough Oxygen

It doesn't provide anything TO the turbo? Heat exchanger reduces the coolant temps in the air to water(coolant) intercooler in the manifold. It cools the hot air coming FROM the turbo TO the combustion chamber.

I'm saying that there's only one regular poster I know of on this forum that's installed an aftermarket heat exchanger and it's considered such an experiment that he asked for requests on data points to measure before and after so we can see whether it makes any meaningful difference.

By saying "certainly" your post implies that it's a well-established mod that many or most people are using on the B58 and that's far from the truth.
OP is new to B58 so he doesn't have the info yet to critically examine feedback and determine what's accurate so let's help him out.

I'm installing one this week along with upgraded turbo. Unfortunately since it's going on at the same time as the new turbo, I have no "control" experiment to show a difference in logs with or without it on without the other variable (turbo) being different as well. I'll still report back how it does on the dyno as part of the whole package, since there is very little data posted and any is better than none. Props to kern on the great diy video btw!

For what it’s worth, an upgraded intake won’t net you anymore of a performance benefit than a drop in filter, like an AFE Dryflow. If you want more turbo whoosh then this is a good sound upgrade.

The NGK 94201 spark plugs in the car (stock plugs) are the best ones you can get, no need to switch unless the car has 25k or more miles on it.

Charge Pipes for the B58 platform are unnecessary and have been proven above 500whp+ on these cars. Only reason to upgrade is if you are going to run Meth.

Turbo wise you have a few upgrades, Pure800 seems to be the most supported and used upgrade kit here.

I’d recommend going with Bootmod3, MHD or MGFlasher stage 1 and seeing where that puts you in performance for what you are wanting.

Second get a downpipe and go Stage 2. There’s lots of options here, most people recommend VRSF for catless based on price. I’d recommend a CG Precision DS-1 just because you’ll retain most of the performance of a catless pipe with a great sound and little to no catless smell.

Depending on where you want to go from here you’ll need a fuel pump upgrade during or prior to upgrading the turbo.

This is kind of hard to follow. I think you're asking what mods are available so you can choose a route to go. If so, it goes in this order

1. Tune
2. Downpipe
3. HPFP
4. Turbo

- Intake only if you feel that your turbo is laggy
- Heat Exchanger only if your logs indicate heat soak is an issue
- Spark plugs only if you're already due for replacement
- Inlet comes with the turbo kit
- No chargepipe/DV needed

This is the best/most concise explanation.

But OP still hasn't answered two important questions - what's his power goal and what fuel is available near him.

Good call here... This one is often more difficult than most people think.

I have 91 Octane here, but for some reason the octane rating here is worse than the 91 BM3 is tuned for, so I'm forced to run ACN91 or I get a couple of knocks when pulling logs.

I also have one E85 station in my county, thankfully it's on my way to and from work, but its also 15 miles from home which makes things a little difficult.

I go once a month and pickup 20gal (my nearest e85 is 50mi away), just get some Jerry cans with a VERY good seal (ethanol is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air if not sealed properly). You can make much more power on an ethanol blend, especially if your pump gas is crappy.
