Steering wheel turning dead spot

Hey y'all kinda weird one for you recently I just noticed like a quarter turn into the steering wheel there is a random almost"dead" spot where it just stops and is hard to turn through and if you continue then it stumbles through it and then continues like normal does it on both sides anyone have any idea what it might be or ever had this happen? Car is a 2014 335i awd ewg if that matter thanks guys for any advice or help.

The first step would to use a code scanner and learn if there any stored faults.

I'd try the installing the updated thrust piece in the steering rack, it is cheap and easy

Hmm haven't heard of that at all how much and you got a link? Would that cause that dead spot for like 1 second into turning?

I think it could if it was damaged to an extent. When the car is off just jiggle the steering wheel back and fourth, if you hear clunking (I'd venture to say most pre-lci F30s with the original design are going to clunk), that original thrust piece is done.

Mine didn't have an extreme dead spot like you are describing. But before I changed mine my steering felt a bit inconsistent between light and heavy feel. Now it feels the same across the range of motion, so I could see it developing into a more extreme case like yours. Either way if it fails the clunk test, you'll be fixing that.

Thanks man I appreciate it and that's everything I will need? I haven't tried seeing if there is a clunk with the car off but will look and see now.

Some people have removed it with a cheap Amazon tool for grinders, but it didn’t work for me and was a waste of $10. so I’d recommend this tool that I used.

Okay sweet no other tools needed than regular ones? How long did it take you?

nothing else besides a box wrench to grab that tool with.... and pliers or anything you can grip to get the old block out, i believe that is what I used. It is a little too tight in there for sockets.

I think it took about and hour or so.... most of that time was spent trying to compress the little spring in and thread the cap properly. It has tension so it wants to pop itself back out. I think I got annoyed with it not threading a couple times, had a beer, came back and it went right on.
