CD drive foam repair or replacement

I have a phone mount that installs via the cd drive and was thinking of swapping it out with the rennline phone mount. One thing I noticed when removing it is that the foam or whatever it is that is in the cd drive has been flattened by the phone mount I previously had. I wanted to know if there was any way to fix it or if there is any way that I could put in a new foam piece to make it look normal again.

It may go back to normal over time.

I used the same type of mount before getting tired of it. I too noticed the little foam trim inside the player was a little mangled by the mount. Fortunately, it now looks normal again.

I do not think mine is going to go back to normal. Mine looks almost torn from taking it out and putting it back in multiple times. I'm considering replacing that piece, but the part is like 111 dollars on getbmwparts.

Just a shot in the dark, but you might consider heat (e.g. hair dryer). After heating, use something slim to gently retract the piece toward you.

Otherwise, I found this on a quick search from a salvage yard. Double check the part number, however:

Not a bad idea. I might give it a try.

I was wondering if I were to swap out that piece from my car would I need to do any coding or is it plug n play?
