Dealer replaced both of my front door lock actuators due to this issue. I was able to get a video of the drivers side doing it, extremely annoying.

However I'm under warranty so it wasn't an issue.

Just make sure they use the right tools and don't break parts of the door when they're replacing the actuators.

I have the exact same issue on my 2013 328i. Last time it happened was a week ago. From the last few days i am always ready with my phone camera to record a video when i reach home or work and the damn issue does nto show up then. very annoying lol. My warranty expires in May 2017 so i really need to get this replaced before that.

I am starting to see this happen.

I bought a 2013 335i a few weeks ago and this was an issue i had as well. It happened about 20% of the time, but would always work when pressing the unlock button on the fob or in the car. I took it in and it was fixed under warranty.

I could definitely see this causing a panic though if it happened after an accident etc.

Happens to passenger side door. Fortunately I'm still under warranty.

This just happened to me a couple times over the weekend. I'm waiting for my adviser to call me back on an appointment.

This happened to me when I first got the car a few weeks ago. Now it stopped. I messed around with the lock settings in I drive and the issue is gone now. I removed the safety things like auto lock when moving? And i did one key press to unlock all doors.

Same thing started happening on the driver's door on my 2014 428i. I took a video of it to make sure there was evidence if it decided to work when I took it to the dealer.

My regular service advisor didn't even need to look at the video. He said it was the door lock actuator. Clearly there seems to be an issue with it and I'm just the latest victim. Glad to see in an earlier post that the new actuator seems to work better.

Got a loaner, part ordered and hopefully back in one day. Fortunately covered under warranty. I need to get moving on pricing extended warranties, because these sort of things are worrying on a three-year old car with high labor and parts costs.

Wow, I couldn't picture this happening until I saw the YouTube!! There was an X5M that caught on fire and the owner stated that he wasn't able to get out of the car by pulling the door handle. I can't remember, I think he finally broke the window or something, not sure.

It should be a recall - it is definitely a safety issue since there is no physical way to unlock the door if power goes out in the car.

I think we should all write to BMW and file a complaint with the NHTSA.

My wife's 2013 328i xdrive m sport is having the same issue with the drivers door a couple times a week. It will only unlock by pressing the door unlock button on the center consel. I'm currently at 49,890 miles but it's a cpo car so hopefully it will be covered when I take it in after 50,000 mile warranty is up.

I don't know all the CPO limitations, but why would you do this? Why wouldn't you call the dealer tomorrow morning and say "I have 49,890 miles, and I need this looked at right now before I hit 50,000"? Why chance it?

2013 f30 and I've been having the same problem...took it in to dealer and they said they fixed it but it still happens occasionally. I'll probably have to take it in again if it occurs more often.

My car is a CPO and my maintenance warranty just ran out. Is this covered under BMW warranty?

There's a service bulletin on driver's side doors not unlocking for the GT's and GC's produced from October 5-23, 2015. Bringing my 2016 GC in for its first oil change this week and the SA mentioned about this needing to be done since mine was manufactured during that time frame.

Same thing started happening recently on my 2014 335 with 35k miles. Both front doors and the rear passenger side door are all experiencing symptoms. Quite annoying. Scheduled an appointment with the dealer to take a look.

This is definitely a defective part as my driver door is acting up again after it was replaced a few months ago. already had both front doors replaced.

to those inquiring about if CPO covers it, it does but you'll pay a $50 deductible.

Same thing just happened on my 2013 335i I will be writing a DIY on Wednesday to instruct acutator replacement on both front doors. Part is approx $179 each from BMW. The thing about BMW is the engine is amazing, everything else around it is the issue.

Looking forward to your DIY. I occasionally have the issue with the Driver's door. Very intermittent/unpredictable.

Although, I do wonder if the malfunction is caused be an electrical issue that is pulling the locking mechanism back down that would not be present with the loss of electrical power- i.e. reverting to purely a manual mode. Since this is so intermittent, almost impossible to test.
